Tier list

Hey there,

I'm a new player. I tried to find some kind of tier list about classes and I found a few ones about Solo PVE content. What I am interested in is a tier list about group PVE. I'm interested in veteran dungeons and in every MMOs so far I have played there are classes that outdps others and gladly accepted in groups and some underperform and got rejected most of the time. I would like to avoid the latter so if you would be so kind as to share a tier list.

Ps: The PVP tier lists I found the Net are so different maybe you could share that too?

Its because all classes are essentially viable for veteran DLC dungeons, I would advise you too look at classes and see what spells / animations suits you.
With that said, you would have to run some kind of meta build no matter what class you end up choosing, if you want to do high dps and provide good group utility at the same time.

Also find a guild that runs DLC dungeons, as that will make life a lot easier for you. (you can have up to 5 guilds at the same time in ESO, a lot of new people dont know this)

And one last thing, practice LA weaving. getting you rotation straight, have good resource management is key.

    PVP

I think this is the best site to explore if you want to 'git gud' as they say. :)

A couple of sites you can peruse if you're into min/maxing. For PvP specifically, use Deltias Gaming.

    https://eso.justlootit.com/eso-best-class-and-tier-list/

    https://deltiasgaming.com/

Most of these sites have YT options. Skinny Cheeks and Hack The Minotaur on Youtube are very good as well. Most of these sites have variations in the builds they're using, if you're usure of a few things, do some parsing on your own, but all the sites here mentioned, including in post three are all good.

Alcast tier list is not even updated - dragonknights are there at lowest position, which was true more than year ago but now they are at top.

This is the reason that there is no point to choose meta class but this can change with any quarter update after some buffs or nerfs. Just pick what you like thematically, visually and what skills look interesting for you.

    This.

ESO is very horizontal, none more so than today with all the hybridization. Every class can do every content and every role more or less. The only time that is not 100% true is probably veteran DLC 12-person trial hard modes and scorepushing. Dungeons? Some, but only some, DLC hard modes are truly hard, but I have never heard about class requirements for those.

Last I looked the group composition for really, really hardcore content was something like 68% DKs. As Luke says, this is a new phenomenon and liable to change on a quartely basis. ESO - while super easy to start with - is also about skill and mechanics at that level. Were you to try and join a random group, people generally ask about your achievements, e.g. previous completions, not your class.

Trials, at the hardcore level, are about group composition not so much in terms of classes, but in terms of the different armor sets the group has to cover for maximum buff coverage. To some degree that's also about class, but you have to go very far down the rabbit hole for that to become truly relevant. You shouldn't be thinking about that as a new player IMO. If you ever get to that stage, you could always grind up a new character later, which is not that hard. Some people do it in a day or two.

That said, I have a necromancer friend who specialised in some sort of Elemental Catalyst group buff build that few people run. He's always in demand. At least for now.

Also, as Luke said, Alcast and Deltia are not the places to be looking, if you want to go truly hardcore. That's the wrong social bubble. Try Nefas and Skinny Cheeks YouTube channels for starters. Nefas is associated with ESO University and has / had a thing called "Project Vitality" to get more people into high-end raiding across all platforms. Unfortunately this largely fell apart when ZOS released the horrendous U35 patch last year, which upended anything and everything. This is why we're saying you shouldn't be thinking as you do. There is (a) too much change in this game for that and (b) the general direction is towards accomodating more casual players. If you want to go hardcore, this game will only be fine for you, if you're fine with keeping up with the rat race. Beyond Nefas / Skinny Cheeks, check out a smaller YouTube channel from Hyperioxes and see what social bubble that leads you to. That guy seems to be part of scorepushing / world record groups. It's at that point your mindset may actually become relevant.

EDIT: Hack the Minotaur caters to beginners and mid-level players, as far as I'm aware. Not the place to go for meta content. Alcast, I haven't viewed in a long time, so I'm going from Luke's comment. IMO Alcast goes for breadth, trying to cover everything ... and not staying up to date, because he spreads himself too thin. Deltia has gradually become more hardcore IMO. I appreciate his PvP build videos and he's routinely demonstrating some very good completion times in solo content, such as vet Vateshran. I'm just not aware that he's doing much in terms of vet trials, but I could be wrong.

In regard to PvP things are also always changing. Right now:

If you want to play a tanky melee brawler character, choose DK or warden. To add some movement or ranged play to that, warden has you somewhat covered. On DK you would probably add either the Psijic Race Against Time skill for root / snare removal plus speed, or you'd be a vampire and use Mist Form. DK is meta right now. As always, that could change, but DK is IMO also the more fun class, due to the Leap ultimate.

If you prefer a movement-based class, choose sorc or nightblade. Some sorcs are bitterly complaining right now, because sorc was top dog for a very long time until general game changes eroded the class' strength. IMO it's not that bad and is still a fun class with the best movement skill (Streak) and good raw damage. Sorc is best played as a hybrid these days, e.g. with a mix of stamina and magicka skills.

Nightblades are the stealth class. Shadowy Disguise makes you truly invisible to other players, even if they are right on top of you. They may hear you, though, and they may try to actively detect you and break your cloak. Stamblade was the dominant flavor for a long time, but these days it's magblade or hybrid. It is a flexible class. You don't have to major on stealth. Gankers lean on stealth obviously, but you don't have to do that. Some tier lists you see today rate nightblade along with DK and warden, above sorc. I am not convinced of that. The meta is currently so tanky, it favors the brawler classes.

Nightblade and sorc suffer from the same problem in that they are single target classes. Their main attacks are prone to be avoided via dodge rolls. That said, nightblade is more flexible and can be played as an AOE bomber.

Of all the classes nightblade can probably get you the easiest kills against bad players, but also has the steepest learning curve to play the class well.

Templar and necro are currently languishing by all accounts. That doesn't mean they're unplayable. I like templars, but if you are ultra competitive, probably not the best choice right now.

In other words, looking over my own notes, you want to be top as a PvE DD and in PvP, make a DK. DKs also make for the best tanks. The only role they are, to my knowledge, not well suited for is healer. Personally, while fun, I don't find it easy to get good damage out of my (stam) DK in PvE. If you want something easy to play (as a DD), make a magicka templar instead, or get the Oakensoul mythic and make a lightning staff heavy attack build (needs farming specific sets). The best class for lightning heavy attack builds is probably sorc.

For dungeons Nightblade and Templar is in good position as damage dealing, and they have good self heals in addition to that they can be played as ranged relatively easy.

You can also play other classes even Warden as damage dealer in dungeons and still get trifecta achievements. I personally get some of the latest trifectas on Warden as damage dealer. But that might not possible with random people that has biases against the class.

For the trials it is another story. Due to newer content being created in a way where there is always either a mini boss or lots of adds along with the main boss, mostly Dragonknight is the reigning class. So if you choose this class you can find a place in groups easily compared to playing for example Nightblade as damage dealer in raids.

Necromancers are also played in trials a lot, because they can use one support set relatively easy and can provide Major Vulnerability.

ESO is more an action game than RPG, so you assume DD role by wearing certain items and having a certain rotation. Some people do 40k, while others do 135k DPS, using same build.

    Greetings,

After further review we have decided to move this thread to a category we think is more appropriate for this topic.

@nemesrichard Its a balance between "best" DD overall and best DD for you. As you are new to the game, the LA weaving/Animation cancelling rotation has been and continues to be the strongest DPS. But that is typically a hard thing to pick up for new players as its not intuitive and takes practice to get the timing down.

Right now, I would say the easiest basic class is Templar. Build one of those, level them up, and try to get the Oakensoul ring so you can join the flavor of the month and build a heavy attack sorcerer. Then, if you want to, you can later learn how to do better DPS by actually doing a rotation, so when the devs eventually wreck Oakensoul for good, you will be able to keep your DPS up.

I was thinking the other day that maybe some of the Devs just check Alcasts website to see what's good and they keep nerfing what's at the top and buffing the classes at the bottom, not realising it isn't being updated.

I was trying to work out what class was good and looked at 4 different websites and found 4 different answers. In the end I found one that had the class I most wanted to play at the top of the tier list. I decided that was the best website.

I guess I was looking for a website to confirm what I'd already decided.
