If you are not a max level antiquarian, try doing easier leads. The one on your photo is a high difficulty lead.
Be aware that the mythic gear leads are the following shape when you dig them up, so if you found one green square, poke around for the following shape:
I try to find the catty-corner ones, as the 2 middle ones are a given if you find the outter ones.

Yeah I tried that the prob is I always run out of time right at the end on the last piece of the chest thing that gets dug up.
Also remember that the item is never under an exploding block. In the top screenshot I would first probe above and to the left.isadoraisacat wrote: »Be aware that the mythic gear leads are the following shape when you dig them up, so if you found one green square, poke around for the following shape:

I found mythic leads extremely hard to do before i was fully leveled, but not impossible, just really frustrating. Good luck.
I hate to sound like a cliche, but: it will get easier with practice. I also had trouble with master and ultimate difficulty excavations when I first started doing them, but I find them a lot easier now.

Hey thank you so much for the pattern I got it finally following that !!! You are a gift from Mara ♥️

CONGRATS!!

I'd consider leveling up excavation to 10 and grabbing all the skill perks to avoid problems in the future. When leveling scry/excavation, I go to Artaeum and just do green blue repeat for about six cycles each day and make that a part of my character's day for as long as it takes. Even though the greens and blues are less XP, you can do them very quickly in Artaeum.
Do the blue / green in Artaeum until you can do purple, then try to get some purples.AcadianPaladin wrote: »Fabulous! Glad you beat that two day expiration and hope you enjoy Oakensoul. Then you are able to do gold pick flowers in hollow city for the gold void abnormality, its the fastest way to get from level 7 to 10. Has leveled over 10 alts to 8 as I want the treasure chest passive.
If you are level 8 or 9 in excavation you should have an dividing line on the shovel meter, this is why I assumed you was level 7 or 8, maxing the skills makes things easier.isadoraisacat wrote: »Do the blue / green in Artaeum until you can do purple, then try to get some purples.AcadianPaladin wrote: »Fabulous! Thanks but I already did that and obtained oakensoul

I also found it worthwhile to level alts for just the chest passive.
I just narrow down the possibilities using the intersections of the squares indicated by the red, orange and yellow markers. A quick internet search will show what each colour means. This approach can occasionally go wrong, because it may detect the bonus item(s) before the main item, but in general it works well enough.
I am reliably capable of diging up golden leads, with only 2 points spent in Excavation:
1 in Trowel
1 in Heavy Shovel.
I assume that since digging them up is your problem, you are not having a problem scrying for them.
For a golden lead, every square has a depth of between 5 and 8.
How to start: Dig twice in one of the 5-squares to reduce it to depth 3, then R (Augury). Check the colour. Work out how close you are to it. Repeat with another 5-square that is about the right distance away - if there are no convenient ones, try a 6-square that you will have to dig three times (unless you have put an extra point in Augury). Repeat until you hit at least one green square. Then, immediately, TROWEL it - remove the remaining 3 layers from the 1 square. Determine which square of the antiquity it is - whether it is a corner, an edge or a central square.
Now. You know the shape of the antiquity.
- If you have a corner square, you now know where the entire antiquity is, and that all BUT ONE (corner square) of the remaining covered squares can be fitted into a 3x3 block. Level this block off as best you can with normal digging (remove the tops off the 8-depth squares, possibly also brush off the 7-depth squares unless they form a contiguous block), then HEAVY SHOVEL it. From now on, it's "dig, dig, shovel", using the "dig" to dig in the remaining corner square while there is still earth on it, and the "shovel" to shift your 3x3 block.
- If you have an edge square, again you know its shape. Your 3x3 block that you plan to Heavy Shovel, must centre on one of the covered squares next to it (either of the "centre" squares, OR the other "edge" square - decide which by trying to avoid any Fissures) - and will shift only 8 blocks of earth, because the 9th is the square already uncovered. It will also not include 2 corners. Once again, flatten it as best you can with normal digging so as to Heavy Shovel it, and it's dig-dig-shovel again, only you have *two* corner squares to dig out because they're not covered by the shovel.
- If you uncover a centre square, you're in a harder position. You will need to dig up one more square - adjacent vertically or horizontally - to determine the antiquity's layout: use a mix of normal digging and Trowel to do this. You will be wanting to centre your Heavy Shovel 3x3 zone on the antiquity's *other* central square - but you may have 2 wasted squares here (if the second square you uncover is an edge), OR you may have only 1 (if the second square you uncover is a corner). Again, the "dig dig shovel" pattern (as above), digging on the corner squares that aren't in the shovelled area.

With the diagonally-placed antiquities, I like to dig out two 3x3 areas which are side-by-side but slightly cockeyed, as follows:+---+ | *|+---+ | **||* | | *||** | +---+|* | +---+
That only happens if I got lucky finding where the corners are, but it's the most efficient way to dig out the antiquity and hopefully have a bit more time to look for bonus loot.

Someone played Far Cry 3, right? 😉
Michael Mando made video game history with that Monologue.
