Hoarfrost Mechanic Question for vCR+

I cannot find the answer to this anywhere online.
I DO understand that when you are the first to get Hoarfrost in vCR+, you will get prompted to drop it by hitting the synergy button.
What I do NOT understand, is the mechanic for what to do after someone else drops it, and you pick it up. When I run over to it, I seem to have it on me and need to use my synergy to drop it, as well. But I am seeing people on screen just running over to a dropped hoarfrost and the circle just disappears, virtually immediately. I do not understand what they are doing to simply run over and make it go away, versus me, who gets afflicted, has to wait 6 seconds (or so) and then hit my synergy.
Lastly, doesn't it need to be picked up 3X? I only see the mechanic 2X: when someone is first afflicted, then when someone runs over, does something, and it goes away.
All I can find online is how to use synergy when first afflicted. No one seems to address how to pick it up and make it go away.

They’re probably doing the same thing you are and you’re just not seeing the hoarfrost effect on them. There’s nothing special to do to make the hoarfrost mechanic disappear.

it disappears after (I think) 3 drops, then will appear again when the bird calls the attack, so you may see them running over to a disappearing hoarfrost

Edit - found it in Alcasts guide - it is after 3 drops

You know, I was wondering about that---was it the same thing as the initial affliction, but I am just not seeing it. If that's correct, it's weird, graphics-wise that it just disappears when the person who picked up the frost the second time just runs over to it.
And is there a third time, as well? Or just 2x (initial affliction then a pickup)?

it disappears after the 3rd drop off, then will appear again when the gryphon calls it.

But, to be clear. The mechanic for dropping it is the same whether you are first afflicted, or second or third, correct? Use the synergy to drop it?

Yes, just use the synergy once it slows you down and pops up on the screen

I’ve had my graphics in Cloudrest get real weird. The glow of shards disappearing, the purple from crushing darkness disappearing… so I don’t think it to be outside the realm of possibility that the visual fx just aren’t showing up on the person who grabbed it on your screen.

Yes, all 3 use the synergy to drop it. The only difference is that the 1st and 2nd should step out of group to drop it because it deals damage to anyone in the AoE. The 3rd can synergize in group because nothing actually drops, the mechanic is over as soon as they hit the synergy.
