Tier Listing 5 Piece, Monster and Mythic Item Sets, So You Don't Have To (Unless You Want To)

I present my own assessment of item sets in the Elder Scrolls Online and the utility of such sets in all forms of PVP. The purpose of this is to reveal that many sets pale in comparison to a handful of top-performing sets. My "authority" to speak on the subject is that I am a PvP main with 9,000 hours in game. I am not the final authority on these rankings, but just stating my stake and interest in this exercise.

Please note, I am most likely not including certain sets in this list. I tried to get them all but might have missed some, feel free to drop a comment below if I did. I am also NOT tanking 1) 3 piece sets or 2) sets like the trainee set.

The following criteria were used to determine ranking:

1) Effect spread. How many players are positively or negatively impacted by the set? (E.g., Burning Spellweave only gives the user spell damage, Olorime gives it to everyone in the area of effect)
2) Consistency of utility and ease of use. How consistently does the set provide value, and how easy is it to extract utility? (E.g., the Markyn Ring provides a consistent and static set of weapon damage and armor)
3) Stat size and scaling. How numerically large is the stat and bonus provide?
4) Buff rarity. How rare or unique is the buff or damage source being provided? (E.g., minor courage is a rare buff outside of sets)

Not a bad list, but misses the part of the PvP content in which someone wants to play. A solo player does not profit at all, if his set buffs group members, which is a criteria for your tier list. So depending on the content, your list might be totally inappropriate.

Want to clarify some things here. And, as always, thanks for the feedback.

Sets like Olorime and Rallying Cry are rated as the highest tier because they are solid sets for all types of play, from solo to group to raid to zerg. Rallying Cry gives you spell damage and tankiness, and if playing around others, it spreads to them too. Mara's Balm and Draugrkin's Grip are also sets that only benefit the wearer, and are good for solo play.

Ok if I understand you correctly a set has to perform good in only one type of content to make it high on your list, even though it is probably very bad in other content types, right? In that case the list might be confusing, since the reader does not know automatically for what type of content a specific set is usable. For example is draugrkin's grip pretty useless in a big and coordinated group, meanwhile it perfroms great on a highly specific build for soloers, smallscalers and duellists.

In some cases I am also a bit confused if the practicality of a set is incorporated in your list. This may only be my opinion, but for example I do not see any reason why blooddrinker should be S-tier (meanwhile deadly strikes is only A-tier, but much better). Frostbite might sound great damage wise, but again there is not that much ice damage around to buff. I have never seen anybody use Storm-cursed's revenge with that low proc chance either. Looking at monstersets I see you rating Zoal top tier while it is highly unpractical solo, but especially unpractical in groups. Meanwhile skoria is still rated A-tier, while the set is totally bugged and not useful at all. And looking at the mythics I see sea-serpents coil way down in A-tier while it is the mythic of choice for everyone in a group below of 4 members.

Also, I didn't realize the Saxhleel's Champion set was so OP. Now do I pay for a carry or slog through randoms.

I'd personally put Dragon's Appetite in the same tier as Draugrkin. While it doesn't do quite as much damage, Dragon's doesn't have the same healing drawback that Draugrkin has, which means you can double bar it in setups like Monster/Mythic/5pc/2 Trainee/Double Arena.

I mean, its a good generalization, but true S+ tier set lines are really the ones that have broken interactions.

There are a few in the lower tiers, when combined, are doing the singe highest proc damage in the game. And other ones that enable entire builds off of like 3 words in their 5th line of text.

I'm gonna contest Darloc Brae. It's hands down the most comfortable sustain and healing set for a stealth playstyle on any class. Niche, but extremely potent. It also works if you were crouching while stunned, which is very likely to save a players life if they were low on stam. Easy high B-tier, only stuck behind Wretched for how niche it is.

Yeah, I use this with gold jewelry back barred with my stealth blade. It’s pretty powerful and I can perma-cloak with nothing else giving me sustain, AND I can recover to full resources while perma-cloaking.

Sea serpents is A tier vs Markyn at S+

Does major berserk effect dmg before or after battle spirit? So if I do 1,500 dmg with a single jab, does that increase it to 1,650 or 1,575?

I kind of thought everyone was running Sea Serpents, but no one has said anything about the ranking?

Depends how you feel about the massive snare and if/how you adjust your build to account for it.

imagine spinners would be there also...

I don't see hundings, I imagine like julianos it's also there in tier B...

Spinner and Spriggan are nowhere a B. If you need penetration better look at Heartland Conqueror and Shattered Fate

I was thinking that Shattered greatly outclassed Spinners as well, but the added magicka actually increased damage and sustain to a surprising degree. Maybe because major sorcery has less noticeable impact when you run high sd/low magicka, as everyone does now, and added magicka is more noticeable when you’re at 19k.

Where would Twice Born Star go? With Divines. I keep thinking it's gotta be useful in PvP...just not sure how....
