Optional/Varient rules for Fun

I would love to see a load of optional/varient rules that could players could mess around with but only to be used in games where you specifically challenge someone to a ToT match. So not for use in any games played via the queuing system, and also games played with varient/optional rules do not get you achievements and don't count towards any of your dailies.

But... the optional rules include:
  • Playing a game with only 2 Patrons + the treasury. This would be really helpful if you want to teach someone how to play the game and having four patrons at once is a bit too much to grasp. It could also be useful for isolating decks to experience what their strengths and weaknesses are when used without three other Patrons to bounce off of.
  • Disablying victory by patron favour. For games when you just want to focus on the strategy of building your deck and use Patron abilities without worrying about your opponent getting a patron victory.
  • Playing first to 80 rather than 40 so you get more of a chance to pull off some extremely well set up moves. Just as fun for longer games where you want to take your time but also see the pay off for crafting a perfect deck without the additional worry of your opponent racing to 40 before you can catch up.
  • Being able to pick a patron more than once, to a maximum of twice. If you imagine this as a real card game, as the devs intended it to be, if two people decided to meet up and play they would both have their own sets of decks in a case that they'd bring with them. So it wouldn't be that ridiculous for them to decide to play a game with 1 Pelin, 1 Hlaalu, and 2 crow decks. It would be stupid, and unbalanced, but it would be fun.
  • Speed game! Each person's turn is less than 30 seconds.Like speed chess, where you just have to react and make the first move you can, rather than thinking for ages about the perfect move.
  • Refresh the tavern each turn. (Also player two doesn't start with the extra bonus coin) This seems to get asked for a lot, why not test it out and see how it plays in casual games with friends.

There could be lots of other varient rules that both players agree to before they start playing because when you challenge a specific person to a ToT match it usually means they're in your friends list, or you're both in the same guild. I'd like to be able to play with these varient rules with NPCs as well, but as stated before if you win with varient rules against an NPC it doesn't count towards the daily wins.

I'd really love to see something like this added because the game has been designed as if your could play it with friends in a pub, and you all probably would make up silly rules where the games are just for enjoyment. It would add an extra dimension to the game and allow you to experience it in new ways, and if these extra rules seem too much or confusing your just don't have to take part, it's just an option that's there for those who really do love ToT.

this would make sense if they had a lobby type setup for a "friendly" tribute match

but as it is right now if you just invite someone to play tribute, it just instantly dives into the game when they accept and likely they would need to redesign the entire system to allow for doing this kind of thing

it might be possible several years from now if they ever revisit the system aside from adding more decks and balancing issues

i have my main house (grand topal hideaway) listed in the housing tours, it has multiple target dummies, scribing altar, and grandmaster stations (in progress being filled out), as well as almost every antiquity furnishing on display to preview them

I would love to see ToT be included in one of the events we already have and have part of that be an optional matchmade queue with some variant rule sets as well as the ability to choose them when challenging friends to games. Could even have increased/different rewards for all matches and maybe some extra goodies for playing these optional rules. I've always thought the Jester's Festival might be a viable candidate.

My girlfriend and I came up with a set of currently six rule sets that we occasionally use with my ToT guild to give players a different experience. We call them "Minigames" and usually play them at our more fun, social events. I give out prizes to participants if they play a game using one of the Minigames and win their game.
