So I’ve finally made it to the final boss. The furthest I’ve ever gotten was to the 3rd mini boss which is the Pyrelord, he killed me right away before I can even make it back to the final boss. Anyways, on my next attempts I would pick the Pyrelord first to see if I can at least finish him and get my confidence up but it turns out that I can’t. The mini Pyrelord boss is my biggest sticking point.

Shade mechanic is not a problem due to my shadow image skill. I’m able to survive against adds and the final boss.

The Pyrelord just 1 shots me so damn easily, especially after and during the time I try to get rid of the adds first. I use brawler morph, caltrops, etc.

the attack pattern is mostly the same with him, doing the fire spin and stuff, but the biggest threat that appears is the fire mage, who will do a channel flinging fireballs at you

those mages need to be interrupted asap, and preferably killed as they do keep spawning

its also recommended to pick the fire portal last when on the final boss stage, because then those fire mages will continually spawn throughout the rest of the entire fight, instead of only the last third of the fight

each of those portals on the final boss fight adds a new mechanic to the fight, which makes it just a little harder
    • the blue portal adds those lightning strikes, which forces you to keep moving
    • the green portal adds the occasionally spawning minotaur (that is not killable) that pops up those dot/slow areas, generally not too much of a threat just avoid the area
    • the red portal adds the fire mages, which are the largest threat of the 3 mechanics as its an extra add to manage since you have to interrupt it or take a ton of dmg
    plays PC/NA

    active player since april 2014

i have my main house (grand topal hideaway) listed in the housing tours, it has multiple target dummies, scribing altar, and grandmaster stations (in progress being filled out), as well as almost every antiquity furnishing on display to preview them

feel free to stop by and use the facilities

As mentioned above it is highly recommended to save that portal for last since the fire mage is by far the hardest mechanic added to the main fight after it's completed.
Stay out of the spinning carousel fire attack of the Pyrelord and interrupt the fire mage when it starts channeling its attack. Other than interrupting the mage ignore other adds and focus the Pyrelord.
Another big thing that helps in limiting how long you have to deal with fire mage in main fight is to make sure you have a hard hitting ultimate (I like toxic barrage) ready to hit the Pyrelord right away when you enter that portal. The faster you nuke him the less health the main boss will have recovered when you get back out. If you let her get back above 20-25% health it's really tough to get her back down before being overwhelmed. Once you've got the Pyrelord down and are back in the main arena focus the boss but be ready to move to and interrupt the fire mages ASAP.
Wearing the Pale Order ring and putting out as much AOE as you can will also help quite a bit during that last few hectic moments of the fight.

Damn, my only AOE is brawler morph of cleave.

'those mages need to be interrupted asap'

This. That bugger killed me so many times during the final boss... I didn't even think to try interrupting him.

Caltrops is another AOE you mentioned you're already running. I know you say stamblade but with the way hybridization in the game works now you could also use Twisting Path and/or Necrotic Orb for another. Twisting Path would be ideal to activate the 10% bonus damage from concealed weapon with 100% uptime and give you Major Expedition to make kiting and getting to fire mages easier.
Obviously you're running 2H, what's the other weapon? If it's a bow Arrow Barrage is a good option, if it's DW you can use Deadly Cloak (least attractive because of the small radius).

For that very last phase keep 2-3 AOE dot's up under the boss and kite the adds in circles around it so they're walking through them while you spam brawler on the boss, you'll be certain to clip some of the ads with the damage from it too.
Only stop doing that to avoid the insta-death trap ads or to get to the Fire mages and interrupt them. After interrupting just let the AOE's and Brawler spam take them out since they'll come back fairly quickly again anyway when one dies so you'll have to repeat getting to them and interrupting a few times no matter what.
With Pale Order on that should be able to get you somewhere between 5-10K+ in heals per second passively. So as long as you can maintain your AOE's and Brawler spam you won't have to waste any GCD's or resources on heals.

Optionally you can slot Occult Overload so any of the weaker ads that die with a status effect on them turn into AOE damage against everything around them. Take that a step further and use Plaugebreak to guarantee the status effect and to really pump up the AOE burst damage explosions when they go down.

This. Definitely consider a bit of hybridization I play magblade but backbar cleave. It does bear mentioning that stamblade and melee builds in general tend to have a tougher time in VVH. I can slot crushing shock for example and thus stay out of more aoes while maintaining damage and don't have to run in for a bash bc it's a ranged interrupt.
