A discussion on dots

Hi buds,

recently ive been thinking about dots and how they can become stronger. after 30 minutes I came up with a solution that can make dots a bit more viable in pvp. I dont know if this change would make dots OP or not. just wanted your thoughts on the matter.

Changes:

-DoTs will not reapply if that specific dot has not completed all of its ticks.
-all dots will tick the instant you apply them.

I feel like this change would apply more to spammables that have dots tied to them but I just wanted your thoughts on the matter.

Thanks for reading and I can wait to hear your thoughts :>

I think DOTs fly under the radar. They won't hurt you if you're wearing Mara or your class has a purge. The long durations, though, have made them hard to defend against on a build that does not have that. I suppose that mostly applies in situations where you are Xv1d, less so in duels. There are some strong DOTs, though. Status effects were a little stronger than basic DOTs in my recent dummy testing. Any DOT that triggers a poison, burning or haemorrhaging effect - some do this guaranteed - hits twice as hard. Status effects can be prolonged or frequently reapplied using various methods. Special weapons, such as Master's DW or the Blackrose bow, can be more than double a normal DOT too, as can Venomous Claw when it ramps up. Not to mention the Asylum destro staff. Yeah, I think U35 was probably better ... certainly more straightforward in PvP. It's just, you can still be caught out by DOTs in some cases.

I suppose you've thought this through, huh? You certainly couldn't have the second part without the first, otherwise something like Noxious Breath would likely be the strength of a regular spammable. On the other hand you couldn't reapply DOTs that have guaranteed Burning (Burning Embers) or guaranteed Haemorrhaging (Rending Slashes) status effects and the like. In other words, this isn't really a buff. Without Nazaray or that new 5-piece set, status effects only last what? 4 seconds? 6 seconds? Right now you get to reapply them via some of your DOT skills. This might also have a bigger impact on PvE than you'd think.
