The insane deserter rules of ranked ToT...

I just got a deserter penalty and dropped 30 positions in rank because I accepted a match while using the inventory. I didn't even had 1 second to decide anything. As soon as I accepted the match I immediately got the penalty lost points and I'm forced to wait 10 minutes to ask for another game. This is completely insane and unacceptable. There's no information about this rules anywhere not even a single advice informing that we can't accept a match while using the inventory. Also, if we can't accept a match while using the inventory why the hell the button to accept appears over the inventory window? It's impossible to understand ToT deserter rules. Seems that almost every action in game while we wait for a match serves as an deserter excuse. Please put some information somewhere explaining all action that may result in a ToT penalty.

Right after I posted this, I got again another deserter penalty on a ranked match, immediately after I accept to start, and I wasn't even doing nothing. Please we need all rules well explained.

That almost sounds like a bug. You didn't have anything open at the time-- inventory, mail, etc.?

The first time I was using the inventory opened when started and got the deserter penalty, then I was in the journal but doing nothing when I accepted. Anyway, I remember that I already got this penalty by opening a writ reward when it started. The problem is that sometimes after we accept the match, it doesn't start immediately, sometimes we have to wait. Looks like while we are waiting we can't do almost anything. But this is not at all correct, this shouldn't happen. Specially in the ranked matches giving penalties and stealing points to a player just for opening a journal or the inventory, is unspeakably hideous. There shouldn't even be a deserter penalty on ranked matches and we shouldn't be losing points without even starting a game. It's very frustrating to lose this way, without any chance to play.

Btw... I already won a few games right when the match was starting, both players with zero points, giving the idea that the opponent gave up of the game right in the start. Now I understand that it might be an opponent having this problem. But no one should win or lose this way. I'd like to think that this was a bug, but I see lots of people discussing the deserter penalties since ToT release, and seems that it's designed as a rule.

There may have been an exploit that caused this to happen. I don't know the details, but it would be nice to know that it isn't back.
    Don't tank

It stinks getting the loss, but do the quest on 2 or 3 characters. If you get a deserter penalty, you can just hop to a different character. The rank is account bound

I know, but the they also remove a lot of points on ranked. It takes hours, many hours, to return to the same position after losing twice because of the insane deserter rules. They should remove it on ranked.

I don't know. Now I no longer do anything while waiting for a ranked match, I just left the toon still not doing anything. But meanwhile I noticed that I can use the inventory while waiting for a casual match to start. It's weird.

The ranking system is silly. You should not be placed against people that are so far below you that you get 0 points for winning. They changed the system so you can lose a maximum of 150 points per game. They need to change it so you get a minimum of 25 points for a win. When you are in the top 5 you get placed against people 700 points below you. You get absolutely nothing for a win. It's ridiculous.

How does it really work? I never understood. I feel that there are lots of hidden rules in this game. Ranked ToT feels very shady. Today I lost one match and dropped about 20 potions. Then I won four matches and I went up 5 positions. It's all so weird.

On the PS5, I got kicked out of the queue because my opponent declined the match. I have also encountered the bug you referred to in the past where I'm managing my inventory or crafting, accept the notification, don't get placed into the match and get kicked out with a penalty despite having accepted the match.

Yet another season of ranked where I won't do more than get to Rubedite and then stop playing entirely due to bugs.

Last season is was I couldn't win or lose points. Literally constant +0 no matter the outcome. What's the point in trying if you can't change your score at all no matter if you win or lose? So, that's why I didn't do that season.

Is it too much to ask that I can just queue into ranked, get actually placed into the match and then get points for a win and lose points for a loss?

The delay time to respond should be like other activites like AwA or Dungeons. ZOS cant expect us to stare at the screen waiting for a Match.
Enjoy the game, life is what you really want to be worried about.

This problem remains! Since I reported this I've been extremely careful while waiting for a ranked match, but right now, while waiting for an unranked match to start, I decided to open a reward purse, when I did that the match started and I got a deserter penalty. Once again I have to say that I consider this an absolute aberration! We shouldn't ever be penalized for interacting with the game while waiting for a match to start. This thing is hideous and I can't even understand at all the point of the time penalty. Why the hell are they preventing players to play for 10 minutes? What's the logic on this nonsense?
