Stalling on loading screen

I cant get past the loading screen between When I put in my account info and it brings up my character list. I am a returning player contemplating buying the new xpac but i cant log into the game. Any ideas?

An Update, I let my comp run and it took 22 minutes to actually get into the game the first time. Not having the same issue on any subsequents attempts since i got in after 22 minutes. Do you all think this is a game issue or a comp issue for me?

Upon first log in after install or any updates the game does a fair bit of caching.

This usually takes around 20 to 30 seconds for me whereas a normal login from password to character select is maybe 5 seconds (these days, it used to be much longer but ESO load times have dramatically improved over the last year or so).

22 minutes is obviously excessive and I have no idea what would cause that. A slow drive or cpu could but that still seems way too slow.

So they introduced sharding this year where innovative accounts are basically "cold storaged" 20 mins does seem excessive but they did say it was an avg of 5 to 10 mins for a first login after sharding. Send a ticket but keep the game running, until it loads maybe

This may be a one time issue. Have you tried reloading the game a few times to see if you run into loading issues again?

This is actually a procedure which helps in many cases. E.g. loading of addons or general character specific settings
