High Isle Ghost Ship

Every once in a while there is a blue ghost ship that shows up on the beaches and the captain starts summoning undead enemies for you fight for a bit and then she disappears with an ominous message.

It doesn't seem to be connected to anything that I can tell, and there don't seem to be any achievements for it, so what exact is the purpose of this encounter other than a neat thing to do?

    Keep doing the story quests & the dungeon quests, then you will discover what the Ghost Ship is all about. I would hate to spoil things for you here.

    You can see that encounter before you do that quest? I never saw it until after and now it happens fairly often when I'm near the shore.

    Haven't done the quest lines in High Isle yet, and I see it about every third trip around looking for clams.

    No, it's not that ship from the quest.

    I also had it several times when I had just started with High Isle and hadn't finished any quests yet, except for the tutorial quests for the card game.

    I haven't encountered it yet, but from the general description it reminds me a bit of that world boss in Auridon. :)
    I've fought mudcrabs more fearsome than me!

    Yes, I've done everything in the story and on the map, and I saw the ship on the beach and fought with it before doing anything else. Also, I know which quest for which dungeon you're talking about, but I it's not the same ship.

    I love that ghost ship that pops up! Its so atmospheric and I thought it was such a wonderful touch by the artists when I first saw it!

    Yeah, I had never crossed that boss before, I thought it was a new addition lol.

    It seems to be any shore.

    The first time I encountered it was on the shore near one of the delves, either Shipwreck Shoals or Breakwater Cave, neither of which have anything to do with the quest mentioned above.

    Later on though, I found it near the Colossus View Lighthouse.

    So, yeah, it seems to just be a random "mini-boss" encounter.
