Who grabbed Hawke ?

Its posible that even Hawke_ (with spacebar at the end) will be treated as diffrent name. But this makes socialising with such character a problem cos other players dont see invisible letters (like spacebar) very well. More likely they send friend request to "original" Hawke ;D

Other posible variants: Havke, Hawkee, Hawke'

    Fortunately, I'm still @LOVE.

Plus, all my alternative choices were as well. So, for consistency, all my character names now have ugly spaced formatting. xD

I feel bad for my friends though, rival guilds/players of ours stole a boatload of their names. Uncool. ;x

I don't think we can have names with a space at the end.

The key I have found with names is to create something truly unique so others do not so easily steal it. For ESO my wife and I are playing a pair of Bosmer so we went to the Tamriel Rebuilt name generator to get our names and then used the lore sites to get a family/clan name. The result is our names are unique enough that no one has taken them. BTW we are Eradra and Irwaen Willowrun, lore friendly names and totally unique

I like assigning very unusual names, like Ythuzuthu Hrunther.

There's little chance of such names being taken.

I just checked -yes its true, it looks that names need to end with a letter
How about Hawke'n or El/Sir/The Hawke

I will be ok I suppose,,, but I would really like to speak with the person who took that name. We might be able to work something out.

The best option I found was to use a First Name / Last Name combo, thankfully that is treated as a different name entirely - workaround for all toes unable to get their preferred name. Thankfully I got mine as I guess unusual enough!

I wonder what their policy will be on freeing up taken names for inactive or abandoned characters.

I'd imagine the vast majority of the names that are taken were sniped by people filling all 8 slots. They'll play their free month, quit, and those names will forever be locked away. Or they'll play, but not those characters because they have them reserved.

As per my handle, I wanted Reiterpallasch but LOLNOPE taken already.

Hopefully @Reiterpallasch‌ they won't stay locked forever - that would be irritating to say the least! I guess only time will tell.

Luckly i got up a bit earlier and grabbed Busta :P Sad I didn't get Skooma or Skooma Addict. Was trying hard for that lol. I did manage Mr Skooma though, so his drugged out escapades will begin shortly.

Congrats @Busta on getting your names! I got one of mine, sadly my assassin is still nameless but I keep trying new ideas. @Hawke I hope the person that has your name drops into the discussion soon!

I hope so too. I sent them a friend invite and have been /tell hawke, randomly, hoping to catch them on.

Ummm but this is an attention grabber for the guy who made his character into Hawke for me to talk to them responsibly and civilly to see if an arrangement could be had to get the name back.

Also for others to talk about similar stuff.

The are other posts who will talk about how the game is, I am certain :D

People could always try to come up with original names.

Wow, what an amazing idea! Quick guys, go back in time and pick the name you want so this doesn't happen when the game goes live. Oh right, that's what people did; they came up with a name they really wanted and then somebody else got it first. You know, since no name outside of ksfjslfj-klafjksaf'jhkhkh is original, and somebody is likely to want to use the same name.

The "original name" argument is bad and the people who use it should feel bad. It's along the lines of "umad" and "pvp happened on a pvp server" type statements, where they have nothing constructive to say but at least wanna show the world that they're a *** anyways.

All well and good, but like @Reiterpallasch has said, people have spent a long time coming up with names, or like to use the same name accross all the games they play as a common identifier.

With a game like ESO, a name is as important as the class/race/look you pick for creating that character - Elder Scrolls is an immersive world after all :)

Happened to me too. 3 hours in from start of Early Access (At time of creation), and Karai was already taken. Well, I got Karaii and Karaai.

    Awwwww....

If I had taken Petra, I would have given it back to you. Sadly, I'm a man so the chances of my name being Petra would be extremely low, if not very strange.

awww .. how sweet, too bad you didn't take my name

I raged quit before I even started. Then I took a nap and I am over it lol
    kinda

now I have to come up with a different name :P

I was able to get my husband's name for him - he was too lazy to get up. He's had that name in all games and it's pretty unique so it was kind of easy.
Also got a name for my best friend because she doesn't have an early access. So at least there is that.

I managed to get my first choice for my male DK (mainly because its unique enough no one else would want it unless they happen to love Roman history and old Star Trek games...)

My female assassin type was a lot harder, the usual suspects had all been taken and took me a good twenty mins to come up with one that was still free and that I liked!

Kinda feeling sorry for anyone without 5 days early access mind you!

Unfortunately, even if you use some name for many years in the virtual or real world, it does not give you more right for that name as compared to other players. Especially when other players are also known among their friends under the same pseudonym.

My ESO time will start only on Tuesday. I have no idea if the names I would prefer will be available or not (they are far from being common, do not overlap with other RPG games or fantasy books, not real life names either). If not - this will be one very creative Tuesday for me :)

Just add a lastname or a self granted title. "Hawke the First" or "Hawke Darkblade" or whatever.

Wait, why would you speak to me as if I do not know? This is why I am not complaining someone took the name I wanted, I am wanting to have a civilized chat with them.

I do wish you well in your searching of a name, the 5 day and 3 day is a huge difference it seems, especially with everyone filling out 8 character slots :: /

  • justinvsevil
honestly since you can add spaces (thank god) you should be able to snag some version of the name you wanted. just add a middle/and/or last name along with it :) I have 2 J'dargos J'dargo the Shadow and J'dargo the Dagger :D

Sorry, I was not talking to you directly, otherwise I would quote you in my first post. I just shared my general opinion on this topic as I was amazed how many names mentioned on the 2 pages were quite famous or popular outside of ESO. I would never dare to choose such names for virtual reality because they are too likely to be either taken before me or to be used in various different spellings.
