Combo questions

During a game today, the NPC player was making combos without playing any cards. How could that have happened? There were like 7 combo markers down the left side of the screen but the NPC hadn't played anything in its hand yet.

Also, how do combos work when playing contract cards? Does the card have to make a combo with whatever you've already played?

One final question. I know this was covered in the tutorial but I didn't quite understand it at the time. Is a "suit" the same as a deck? For example, can crow cards only make combos with other crow cards?

As a combo is defined as playing more than one card of the same patron deck during a turn, just those cards count, which have the same patron symbol in the upper right corner of that card (and the associated patron name is as well on that card).

Contract cards count towards combo as well, whereas agents going to the cool down pile will just count, if they are put on the table for the first time and in further turns just in case you click on them - you can see at the outline of that card, if it can still be played or not. Having to do that manually gives great control over when to use an agent's special abilities.

What you have seen might be an effect which happens when a card's combo 3 is triggered. Lets say all cards played would have a combo 2 with 1 effect and a combo 3 with 2 effects (just for demonstration):

first card played - just card's effect happening
second card played - card's effect and 2 combo effects are triggered (from card 1 and 2)
third card played - card's effect and 6 combo effects are triggered (3x2 effects from all 3 cards)

So I guess it was something like this.

    A few more questions:

    1. I've not been able to trigger an agent in plays combo, I've tried clicking before and after another card from the same deck is played. or I'll play them back to back bringing the agent to the table as the second card but the combo doesn't seem to get triggered, Am I doing this wrong?

    2. Does order of play affect combos or just the amount of cards played one after the other? example- does a no combo card get followed by a 2 combo card then a 3 and a four or can you play them in any order?

    3. Do coins and or power in combos get multiplied? because I've seen some plays that sure seem so, being as you cant see their cards because they go straight to the cool down pile, I can't tell

edit: 4. Is the Ansi deck (spelling) the green one supposed to kill access to the patrons once a card is played? because it does every time unless you play any cards you have after using a patron

suggestion: unless I just haven't found it, there should be some place other than the beginning of play the first time you see a deck, that shows the rules of a deck. I remember the pop up just before play but I didn't take the time to read it all (just skimmed) before I felt I needed to start play.

    1. Was the combo for 2 or 3 cards? Some agents only combo with 3 cards in the duke deck for example.
    2. Only the amount of cards with their color/deck/patron type.
    3. No, but playing multiple cards can trigger many combos at once if they weren’t triggered. what you describe second seems to be the effect of discarding cards from their pile.
    4. No, I noticed a bug that the patrons stop glowing while still being usable. Ansei might trigger this bug.

What do you mean, "just in case you click on them." If there's an agent card that gives 1 coin, for example, and it's on the table, do I have to click on it every turn to get the 1 coin?

(Thanks for your other answers. )

@AzuraFan yes, you have to click on them.

    @Heartrage thanks for the answers.

#4 - I'll go back and give it another try but I'm pretty sure I played it like the first card or two and when I went to hit the treasury patron thing ( don't recall the name) to exchange a card I'm pretty sure it wouldn't let me and I also had it happen with the crow.

If you meet the conditions and haven’t used a patron/ the treasury in this turn yet, you should be able to use a patron.

yes, when you play that agent, you will get the coin right away - but in adjacent turns, the effect is just used, if you click on that agent. This is not to annoy you, but by tactical reasons. Say you have a Hlaalu agent which can gain you a value 5 card in a combo 2. I play another Hlaalu card and if I would click on that agent now, I would get the coin and the value 5 card - but what if there is none yet or I don't want it?- So, I can still decide to maybe use a celarius card to change the tavern first before I click on that agent to grab a value 5 card from the tavern.

OMG, I had no idea you had to click on the agents to get the effect. Thanks for cluing me in lol. I'm amazed that I'm managing to win games.
