Windows Security does not recognize ESO as trusted app and blocks it (continued)

Hello, maybe we locked my previous thread a little too soon: https://forums.elderscrollsonline.com/en/discussion/603979/windows-security-does-not-recognize-eso-as-trusted-app-and-blocks-it
I thought I had found a solution, but now I think it was just a coincidence that ESO started working again after I changed those settings in Windows Security. Now I think that Windows Security stopped blocking ESO only because after a few days it was moved into the trusted apps pile. However, every time ZOS updates the game it goes back to the not-trusted apps pile <_<
I know this because I have not changed anything in my Windows Security settings, I didn't install any Windows updates since May 1st, and yet as of yesterday, after you released an update, the game is being blocked again by Windows Security (specifically by "attack surface reduction"). This is really annoying, I pay for ESO Plus and I cannot lose days of gameplay every time ESO releases an update simply because Windows does not trust the freshly updated app. I understand it's not your fault, but is there a chance that you could talk to the people at Windows and tell them to stop blocking ESO after every freaking update the game receives?? It's still the same app for heaven's sake!

Have you tried creating a new Windows admin account and see if the same security issue happens under the new account?

    That unfortunately didn't work.

Come a new patch I ran into this problem again, however today I found out what the problem was. I have a third party antivirus, which means that Windows Security was running only basic functions and not updating its malware definitions as often as it should have. After forcing an update of the malware definitions used by Windows Defender the ESO launcher is no longer blocked! Yay! Something to keep in mind for all those people who, like me, may be running a third party antivirus.

    More detailed steps:

    1) In Windows Security (Windows 10) you may have to enable "periodic scanning" under Virus and Threat Protection (after installing a third-party antivirus this can be automatically disabled). This will enable a few new fields, such as "Virus & threat protection updates".

    2) Now you can click on "check for updates" under Virus and Threat Protection updates.

    This should fix your problem!

You think that 3rd party antivirus is bad now. wait til you upgrade to windows 11. It will block all windows updates and start deleting windows files. then you wont even be able to open your pc normally, let alone play eso..
you will need to disable the antivirus for a while.

all fun and games until they get around to fixing/updating the antivirus

Thanks for the update that the issue is resolved after updating the anti-virus settings!

Since the issue has been resolved, we will now close this discussion from further comments.
