Crash to desktop after update 32

Launcher works but game crashes to the desktop at the first splash screen, the white cube. Steam version, AMD Ryzen 7, Win10, PC/NA. Lots of memory and hard disk space. Game ran fine yesterday. Tried rebooting and validating local files via Steam.

Same here. Trying a repair install now. Then I might try rolling back the new NVIDIA drivers. I'm not too hopeful though.

I doubt it's your drivers, I've got a Radeon board.

I've been having a similar problem. Something about SensApi.dll is missing from your computer.

It's whining about some sensapi.dll missing, says game can't start, then of course it starts. But I ctd after 1-15 minutes. Tried repairing both the game and windows, all report everything is normal.

Still no luck. Did a repair install, turned off hyperthreading (although I shouldn't have to since the game ran fine yesterday), did a scan for malware and disk errors. Did a full uninstall, deleted all the folders and am now doing a full reinstall and checking for driver updates. If that doesn't work I guess it's time to find something else to play for a while.

Can't play at all, just tried without addons, and still no go. Looks like that's it unless they come out with a new update or something, I'm all out of ideas :(

When people are talking about Multithreaded Rendering, they don't mean Intel Hyperthreading on your CPU. There is an ESO video setting called Multithreaded Rendering. If you can't even launch the game to change the setting, you can disable it by editing your Documents\Elder Scrolls Online\live\UserSettings.txt file. Find the line that says SET RENDERTHREAD "1" and change it to SET RENDERTHREAD "0". Then try launching the game again.

I should also note that, while Multithreaded Rendering was an optional beta setting in Update 31, it was disabled by default before today. ZOS made the decision to enable it by default in Update 32, which has caused lots of crashes and performance problems for many people.

I'd actually tried the setting last update, determined that it made performance and stability worse, and then disabled it. Then, ZOS turned it back on for me today.

    Where is the setting located?

I had the same issue with the Sensapi.dll missing that caused the game to crash. I managed to get around it after I had the lack of a digital signature for eso64.exe dismised.

I had Multithreaded Rendering on even before this update, and it worked perfectly fine, about doubled my fps in fact. But I'll try disabling it, it just seems, with this missing dll, that the issue is something else.

It's near the top of Video settings.

Or you can edit the UserSettings.txt file directly.

As others have mentioned though, this doesn't seem to be the issue most are having today. Ymmv.

Hopefully it will be playable when the install is done...which will be right about my bedtime. Sure glad I took the day off to play the new update! Oh well, these things happen.

Well, not even the full install fixed the problem. I also cleaned out all the video drivers and updated to the latest one. Same problem. I guess I'm off to submit a support ticket. And I just re-upped Plus a week ago after months of not having it.

I think this is the first update to a game I've played in the last few years that I couldn't even get to run after installing. Disappointing to say the least.

    Greetings @3rdpig

If you are receiving an error like "sensapi.dll is missing" then running the system file checker tool as mentioned here may be able to help.

If this isn't applicable or does not help with this issue, then please feel free to provide your ticket number so that we can check on its status for you.

There is no error message, it crashes back to the desktop right at the first Bethesda splash screen. My support ticket is 211102-000344. I will run system checker just in case.

    Thanks

System File Checker didn't not find any corrupt files and didn't fix the crash to desktop.

Of course it didn't. They are using that to deflect attention from the real cause of the issue, which they know is the anti-cheat code they slipped in at the last minute.

As there is already another thread discussing the crash issues related to the missing SensApi.dll file, we are now closing this discussion. You can continue to post and find troubleshooting in the thread linked below.
