Stuck on applying patch?

Once the launcher gets to 38%, it goes completely stagnant at exactly 8215.48 MB and my transfer speed just slowly goes down to 0. I've tried restarting the launcher and my computer but neither works. It correctly verifies files and tries to continue normally but it will just snap back to 8215.48 MB. No idea what to do here :(

Opened launcher at 7:00 am in Germany, it downloaded and applied patch......was suprised to see it doing that so early.

Hey @WereTech, this article provides some troubleshooting for this kind of issue. If you are still having issues, please reach out to us at help.elderscrollsonline.com.

I fixed my issue by looking through the host.developer.log and deleting the file spamming the log with "Failed on File_Read", in my case it was "\vo_en\esoaudioen0001.dat". Mentioning here in case someone else gets this similar issue.

Wow, what a huge mess this was. Basically, it appears that the launcher completely stopped working for probably most windows 7 users as a result of the launcher now requiring whatever TLS 1.1 and 1.2 are. This requires that you apply a particular and obscure MicroSoft "easyfix".

In any case, ZOS support Article on the 210 error will link you to the correct easyfix if you click on the "available here" hotlink in the lightbulb text blurb for Windows 7 users near the top.

In all likelihood windows 7 users might as well ignore the rest of the article as it seems to deal with messes mostly encountered by users of the newer Windows iterations.

You know, given that ESO now is the same company as Microsoft, you guys might try to make things easier than having to root around and find just the right help article that points you to just the right obscure "Easy Fix." I have been dealing with this ESO Launcher failure issue for a couple weeks now on my wife's machine (though it only showed up today on mine as I don't use launcher to start the game). It really shouldn't be that hard given how common the issue seems to be. I'm a pretty sharp cookie and I spent hours on this mess going though endless dead end suggestions from various pages and articles many of which seemed only vaguely plausible to start with. Furthermore, it appears that this issue was quite recently created given that everything worked fine on both my machines last mini-patch. Perhaps maybe you don't create the issue to start with. Whatever security feature is enabled by TLS 1.1 and 1.2 hardly seems necessary for a video game download.

I am mostly pleased with the current state of ESO. Please do continue to ban cheaters though and you guys have to find out who is duping gold and how because the economy is currently non-functional.

Uh, well.... win 7 is almost two years eol. I understand not wanting to give up a favorite OS, but.... win 10 pro (at least my antique version, where I have a lovely little applet that lets me hide any KB update I don't want to apply, but also gets me the latest security, firewall, and defender updates, without allowing MS to "auto update" anything) is so much faster and solider than 7 that I wouldn't ever want to go back.

Win 11? Most likely not. I think I'll be going to linux with my new machine next year. Which linux is up in the air, but I have several good friends who can help me "regress to command line" sort of (I started my computer life in 1984, with DOS 3.* - don't remember exactly which incremental now....)

This happened to me this morning updating for the High Isle patch. Articles linked above did not fix the issue, nor did other solutions listed.

Attempting a full re-install of the game at this point, hopefully that will resolve it.

(Note that this is using Win11.)

Just some insight load screens and load times improve on windows 11. The game lauchervwpeks really well

If start menu is problem then start 11 allows you to have windows 7 start menu or 10 or a different 11 version

    11 improvedy ESO experience

    Windows 10 (latest build).

I had same issue today. Uninstalling & reinstalling the game worked.

The launcher at some point (around 19 - 20%) basically froze (program not responding). After a while it did respond, but was stuck. No activity, no download speed. Nothing. After 3 failed attempts (close & start ESO launcher) , I tried to use "Repair" function. Same thing happened. At around 20% of game files validation it crashed.

What is odd is that on my laptop the update worked flawlessly. But the weird part is that on my desktop it was trying to "apply patch" - and it had around 8 gigs of files, but on my laptop it was "applying patch" - but it had around 70 gigs. Almost as if it was "scanning" the whole game & applying patch at the same time.

Like I have said - on my desktop I had to reinstall the whole game. It then booted up, but the maintenance was still up so I was not able to login yet.

Well, so far this seems to be working fine for me - but I always disable Windows Defender prior to patching because that's been my problem the couple of times in the past I've had issues.

[Oh boy - this turned out to be a necro thread! Sorry!]

That one's on me, not you, because it's the same issue someone else was having then, so I figured better to keep all the potential issues/fixes in the same place.
