Eso is literally the least toxic PVP community I've been involved with tbh, if a few salty whisper's, zone disagreement's & teabags is effecting your mental health, maybe pvp isn't for you.

Try CS GO and see how the players shouting and spamming mic there let alone in game chat. This is by far way better community.

I mean, say what you will about ESO compared to other games, but the OP is right. It would cut down on the hate whispers and taunts.

Yeah, sure, we used to laugh about the hate whispers people got in raid. We used to share our witty comebacks. We'd say, "You know you're doing something right when you get the hate whispers!"

And so it depends. Do we want an environment common to PVP-centric games, where insulting commentary is often the norm? Or would we rather...not? We could try something different.

OP, one thing to consider with your suggestion is that it doesn't do anything about teabagging. Right now, ZOS says that teabagging is allowed, but that if you ask someone to stop and they don't, they can be disciplined for it. Obviously, you need whispers to ask an enemy player to stop. Something to think about.

Meh, honestly its really a non-issue imo, and people will always find a way to be toxic in pvp environments, like I said if a couple of annoying moments in a video game effect/upset you that much, maybe pvp isn't for you.

This could affect harmless communication between friends and guildmates that has nothing to do with Cyrodiil.

I have seen those hate whispers that for some odd reason is yelling at you because you killed them and blah blah blah. Anytime I have seen such absurd comments in this game or other games I just ignore them. I am not talking about putting them on an ignore list but merely not replying. That seems to get them even more worked up to the point their head explodes or they finally realize you could care less about their ludicrous bluster.

Maybe more customizable offline options, like setting oneself to being only offline to faction A+B with specific player exceptions feature (friends, guildmates, etc.).

    Favorite Foods and Potions

    • Parse Food for PvE:(DPS) Ghastly Eye Bowl (increases Max Magicka by 4592 and Magicka Recovery by 459 for 2 hours).
    • Gold/Purple Food for Sorc PvP and Meme Tanking:(PvP) Clockwork Citrus Filet (increases Max Health by 3326, Health Recovery by 406 [useful if stage 1 vampire], Max Magicka by 3080, and Magicka Recovery by 338 for 2 hours). Witchmother's Potent Brew (Increase Max Magicka by 2856, Max Health by 3094, and Magicka Recovery by 315 for 2 hours.
    • Trash Potions when feeling cheap: Regular CP150 Essence of Magicka pots that I obtain frequently from playing the game or Crown Tri-Restoration Potion obtained from dailies.
    • Crafted Potions: Essence of Spell Critical (Bugloss, Lady's Smock, and Water Hyacinth). Without magelight this is my primary means of obtaining Major Prophecy on my Sorc, which increases my Spell Critical Rating. This also heals and restores magicka. Essence of Immovability (Columbine, Corn Flower, and Wormwood). I use this in PvP, since this gives me stealth detection, knockback immunity, and restores magicka (better to use it when competent allies are nearby, since it might reveal that you are surrounded by multiple players in stealth and you will not have an emergency pot available after use). Essence of Invisibility with only 2 ingredients (Blue Entoloma, Namira's Rot, Nirnroot, or Spider Egg). I use this in PvE content that requires stealth and if I need more speed I'll use Rapid Maneuver before using the potion. Essence of Invisibility with 3 ingredients (Blessed Thistle, Blue Entoloma, and Namira's Rot). Very useful in PvP alongside the vampire Dark Stalker passive, since you'll be invisible, ignore movement speed penalty while in Crouch, and you'll have a 30% movement speed boost from Major Expedition (I always have this slotted when riding from point A to B in PvP land, since gankers are always lurking). My templar will mostly use Essence of Health (Tri-Stat Potion) Ingredients: (Mountain Flower, Columbine, and Bugloss).

I'm not good enough to get hate tells 😂 but like someone already pointed out it could interfere with normal communication. If they found a way around that I wouldn't mind it being an option that one could turn on/off. But isn't there already kind of something like that like being offline?

OP, one thing to consider with your suggestion is that it doesn't do anything about teabagging. Right now, ZOS says that teabagging is allowed, but that if you ask someone to stop and they don't, they can be disciplined for it. Obviously, you need whispers to ask an enemy player to stop. Something to think about.

Meh, honestly its really a non-issue imo, and people will always find a way to be toxic in pvp environments, like I said if a couple of annoying moments in a video game effect/upset you that much, maybe pvp isn't for you.

I've been PVPing for years, at this point. So I'm afraid that PVP is for me, and I'm not thrilled to see that the reaction is basically "Whelp, we can't possibly consider anything that would make PVP less toxic. If you're bothered by hate whispers, maybe you shouldn't PVP." I'm sorry, but my main character is a Legate, and I'm supposed to GTFO because I block and report people for TOS-breaking hate whispers? No.

Like, just because my raid laughed off some nasty, nasty stuff doesn't make it less nasty. And just because most PVPers have a high tolerance for insulting commentary doesn't make it less insulting. Its not exactly demonstrating good sportsmanship nor supporting a welcoming community. And when you insist that everyone has to have the same high tolerance or GTFO, then you ensure that the PVP community stays small and with a high tolerance for toxicity. I dunno, maybe that feels safe and familiar from other PVP games, but it's not exactly a healthy community in the long term.

I'm not sure that the OP's idea is practical - see my caveat about teabagging. But I will say that telling people "PVP isn't for you" if they get upset over some genuinely hateful stuff is only perpetuating a small, toxic community of PVPers where its acceptable to tell your opponent genuinely hateful stuff. I really love ESO's Cyrodiil PVP...and part of that love means acknowledging that some members of the PVP community really could improve their understanding of good sportsmanship. If they did, it'd be a better community for everyone.

Tbh. I am surprised something like this was not implemented from the start (back when the game was released, in 2014), or at least in the patch when they made one campaign Alliance - Locked.

It would be nice to have something like this. If your friend is not in Cyrodiil and they whisper your - they would see something like "this person is busy" or "your message was blocked" etc. Same if a player you are trying to whisper is in IC and you are not.

The only whispers you could get would be whispers from players who are in Cyrodiil / IC and in the same alliance.

And it would be nice to have it as an "option" - so you can toggle it on/off, so those who for whatever reason like "hate whispers" could still get them.

    A few issues.

On console, you are more likely to get out of game messages, so limiting in game communication is going to be largely ineffective.

But also, what happens when a friend in another aspect of the game reaches out to ask a question or invite me to something and they are on a character in another alliance? Basically prevents them from communicating with me in game.

Just seems rather obstructive and pointless.

In order to be useful, I imagine it would have to be zone-limited. i.e. players in Cyrodiil can't whisper enemy players in Cyrodiil. And even that won't address the issue of responding to teabagging, so I'm not sure there's a way to cover every case.
