    I'm also not sure what vignette overlay is in ESO. I did a google search and this thread was the only thing that came up. Can you describe which overlay you're referring to in a bit more detail?

    The only vignette I ever see is when you come out of a loading screen to a new zone, but it disappears right away.

    There are vignettes when you open a menu in combat, when you’re close to death, when you reach a tel var multiplier… maybe more I can’t recall. They seem pretty minimal and situational to me, though. Not sure it would be a popular request to toggle them off.

    tbf that isn't the definition of vignette that many of us are familiar with, so some confusion is understandable

    So could you provide the definition you're familiar with?

    In this context it’s a photography/graphics art term for a border that blurs the edges of an image. Makes sense that some may have not encountered it before.

    An evocative account, episode, or scene.

    Since I am not a graphic artist, I was not familiar with the more genre specific definition given by @milkbox (thank you for that explanation)

    It's more than that. I play on console and its clear to see that the edges of the screen have at all times a slight solid vignette. Look at the sky, focus on the corner edges of the image. You'll see they're darker and splotchy to an extent. Thats vignetting and its pointless.

    In this context, yes I absolutely agree - makes me think that my monitor needs a clean.

    In photography, vignette more commonly refers to the gradual darkening of corners. But yes, this usually comes with a softening of the corners if the vignette is introduced by the lens rather than applied in post.

    Oh. I never see that. I had to open the game to look for it. It doesn't bother me at all - because I never actually see it....

    I just went through Discord to look at some screenshots and you’re right- it’s subtle, but it’s there. I never noticed before.

    im glad you all learned a thing. the worst part about a vignette overlay is that it makes the sky seem dark when it aint. it sucks and bugs me nonstop. i turn it off in every game i play, but theres no option to do it in eso! i would like an option please! its only a jpeg, it shouldnt be that hard to add a toggle!

    I want to get rid of that vignette, too. I also don't like the hazy red one when you're on low health, makes things hard to see. But, I'm on console, so I doubt I'll ever seen an option for that.

    its been a while but you can try the ingame command /script SetCVar("PPFXOverlaysEnabled","0")
    this disables most off it

    0 = disable
    1 = enable

    just want to leave it here for future. maybe someone is looking in the future for a solution.

    Greetings,

    We have closed this topic as it was originally created in September 2021. In many cases, it's better to create a new thread on a topic that you want to discuss as opposed to bumping one that is rather old.

    Thank you for your understanding.
