My character is sometimes dropping block when it shouldn't

Hello,

Since Blackwood launched, tanking has been more challenging than usual, thankfully, the block cost bug was fixed today.
But, I have been having an other issue, my block is dropping in situations it shouldn't.
I died many times due to this, because some mechanics obviously need to be blocked.

I'm still trying to figure out if this is an issue on my end, or if it's a bug, I was hoping it was just a side effect of the stamina cost bug (dropping block because my stamina would be desync'ed), but it kept happening today.

I tried to pinpoint what was causing this, and I couldn't exactly, so here is what I have observed.
It always happened in a group. When I'm by myself, as long as I hold right click, if I'm not running, dodging, bar swapping, or channeling, my block stays up, as it should.
It looks like it mostly happened when I was moving (and not sprinting).
It may have been happening when a synergy is available (orb passing by...).

It's very inconsistent and I haven't been able to reproduce it at will, so I'm really starting to question what is happening. So, is anyone having some similar experience, or is it just me?

I did a trial run with some guildies on sunday, and I noticed the same thing 2 times specifically. Saw an incoming boss heavy attack, put up my block, my block went up - aaaaannnddd...then it went down again. Right before I got hit. Now, I my bar was showing more than 1/4 stamina (and my base stamina is just shy of 30k), so I was low, but don't THINK I was low enough to pre-lose my block before getting hit? Anyway, it happened again later that night, put up a block only to to have the block indicator show up briefly and then go away again - I figured maybe my finger slipped off the button that time, but I'm wondering now if it isn't a more chronic problem.

Can also confirm that I have been getting smashed even though physically I am using the mouse bind for block and yet my tanks are dropping it

Block has been dodgey for me for quite some time now. So many times I feel like I have block key depressed but still get hit by an attack/knock back whatever.

I am not sure if it is related to the cast time....definitely swapping bars whilst perma-blocking drops block. I have higher ping so it could just be that on top of the cast time......I wish cast times could be removed. Supposedly added to improve performance........

I'm going to record my vKA HM run today, I installed the AmIBlocking addon, hopefully I can record it happening. I'd like to figure out what's causing it so I can do a bug report with proper reproduction steps, if this is actually a bug.

The dropping of block seems to be a bug that comes and leaves every other patch.

It seems to be an input problem. You can actively hold the block button down, but it's like it stop registering and drops block.

This is definitely not a new issue I think most end game tanks have witnessed the "Dude I was blocking WTF?" scenario a few times.

Sometimes desynch, somtimes input lag in my experience - this one seems to tie in with the games overall poor performance and input lag. Wouldn't be surprised if PvP players witness something similar where button presses don't go off.

It's less noticable for DD and healer players as missing a light attack or a spammable click isn't the end of the world, while missing a block usually equals a team wipe.

The animation does not always match what is going on. If you miss the block window, even when you think you have it up in plenty of time, it will drop just before you get hit.

I'm not talking about that. I would be holding block, and start walking, and then suddenly my block will fall down, so my character starts walking at regular speed, and then it would come back up. It's not missing a block window, it's block dropping by itself, when I was previously already blocking.

It is more something like that yes, it stops registering, definitely not a timing issue. I'm an endgame tank, I had it happen to me during other patches, but it was fairly rare. Recently it's been happening rather frequently. And it's really an issue as I'm tanking for trifecta prog groups :D And dying to something like that makes me look like I'm just bad, when it isn't the case.

Maybe it's just the game's performance being worse than usual, that might explain why it's happening more to me than some people I play with, and why it's so inconsistent.

Yes, failed several no-death runs because of it. Tank blocks, tank see blocking animation, other people in party see blocking animation, addon registers blocking, but tank still gets full damage.

Feeling this old bug recently as of Necrom in Hard Mode Coral Aerie. Can post logs if a dev needs to see, but its absolute BS.

it's been 2 years since this topic was made and multiple block bugs have occurred and have been fixed. You should make a new topic in https://forums.elderscrollsonline.com/en-gb/categories/bug-reports
