What Happened To Out of Date Addons Selection Box

My addons are not working and the selection box to allow out of date addons is nowhere to be found now. Anyone else experiencing this problem?

Oh, a friend tells me that apparently addons are now enabled by default even when out-of-date, probably because of all the complaints about them being automatically disabled whenever the game or a patch updated. You'll just get a notification that some addons are out-of-date, but as far as I can see, most of them seem to be still working.

I don't know what you mean by "it was generally not too useful" - it was the switch that allowed the use of out-of-date addons and it has been present and worked for years. Now it is not there and the system is sending messages that I am trying to use out-of-date addons.

There was a problem with the tick box not staying ticked so I guess it was a big enough issue they just decided to remove the box completely.

The checkbox should not be added back. It was a useless checkbox that was extremely misleading and pointless. Many supposedly out of date add-ons worked fine. Add-ons that truly don't work can simply be disabled, with or without the checkbox. If you have add-ons not working, then just turn them off.

Removing it was largely driven by add-on authors. In fact, we've been requesting it to be removed for years now. 'out of date' never had any real meaning, it was just a flag. If you kept the checkbox unchecked, well, there was no need because most of those add-ons still worked.

The box was removed, as it was generally not too useful. Make sure you download any updates for add-ons, and temporarily disable any that are not working

I actually did find it useful, but not enough so to speak up when it was first removed on the PTS. I used it to help organize my addons as I methodically updated and/or replaced each one.

I'm kind of regretting the decision not to give feedback on this during PTS, but here we are.

Unless this is sorted quickly, my characters will be unplayable as the alternative will be to change gear sets and skill bars manually. I didn't pay good money for the expansion to for this nonsense. Put the check box back

If you're getting aessage you're using an out of date add-on more than once, that's probably a bug and should be reported. Otherwise, you could view the message as a checkbox replacement. Out of date add-ons are still allowed.

The thing is: There are some addons that simply don't need updating and will thus be always "out of date". Examples include the separate, regional sub-sections of HarvestMap's crafting nodes, or any addon that shows the in-game time and phases of the moon (do those even have an in-game effect any more? I hear that infectious werewolves and bloodfiends are no longer tied to moon phases.)

It would be good if there was a way for some addons to be marked as being addons that won't be considered out-of-date simply because a new update has been made to the game.

The checkbox was NOT meant to be used to disable old addons and to sort your addons It was a poor approch to show you visually what addons might be older!

If you want to manage your addons use a Addon profile manager like Circonians Addon Profiles.
The checkbox should not be re-added just because of your false usage in the past. It was a mess as it existed and it's a great improvement now as it is removed.

Just forget the "out of date"! Thats all you need to learn. Addons either work or throw errors and do not work. It was and always will be that way! Everything else is false assumptions and only a number compariosn which does not tell you a damn about if addons work or not. If you want to see when their last update was done you can check that for each addon at www.esoui.com or within Minion. But agai This does not tell you anything about if an addon works or not.
