Alliance war, but no Army??? A Fix

Skald King, King Emeric and Queen Ayrenn must have lower I.Q than Rigurt the brash, no wonder none of them have captured the Ruby throne for more than a day.

They recruited 18 million Heroes of Tamriel and drafted them into the Army only to throw them out onto the battlefield without a Commander and some Generals to guide Regiments and Battalions like every other successful military in existence....

Joking asside, there is a valid point, "Cyrodiil" in all the advertising material was marketed as "Alliance Vs Alliance Vs Alliance" the 3 banners war...

Instead you land in Cyrodiil, no indication of where your fellow players are, reliance on getting a group or looking for the occasionally useful info in chat, people "Dueling", being assasinated by a shrubbery as you ride along, Greens, Purples and Orange groups existing in harmony, Zergs chasing deadly groups of 2 at a quest giver and so much chaos that ACTUAL Sheogorath now lives there.

Who can bring order and military structure to this chaos? Commanders , Now I hear the devs groaning thinking this will take loads of coding, wrong, this will be a piece of chef Donolon's cake.

A Commander is the highest scoring player (or top 3 players) currently online for each Faction and they will be a beacon on the map and compass, this makes it easy for players to "Join the Army" and fight for their Alliance.

A bonus mechanic, if 2 opposing armies are in proximity but not in combat then the soldiers in question are punnished (stacking DoT) for cowardice.

This or literally any other mechanism to make the "Armies of Cyrodiil" have a smattering of cohesion would be welcome because we have BG's for small scale, 1vX gameplay, we have a dueling arena that nobody goes to and the ability to 1v1 Anybody Anywhere, but Cyrodiil has never been what it was marketed as and now is the time.

When PvP was more popping on my server, you had plenty of people acting like that.

Calling out, asking groups to go to x while they took x.

Still plenty of zerg leaders that amass an army and faction stack keeps.

Problem is the top three players usually don’t care about the score and just farm ap.

The "top players" don't care or may not be interested at all and people who generally are interested in that, normally try; and often *** off half the faction by spamming zone. Find me the most hated person in zone chat, and I will show you the person who thinks they are a leader.

Instead of outsourcing the "please, direct me to the nearest zerg" job to NPCs, you'll have a better experience if you look for a PVP guild that's open to new folks, join a PUG raid, or listen to your resident Zone General.

If you join a group, you'll see someone in group with a crown symbol. Stick with that person because it's their job to look at the map and get you to good fights. It'll help if you bring some siege weapons. Guilds tend to be more organized and consistent than PUGs, if you like PVPing with the same group of people.

If you prefer to run by yourself, keep an eye on zone chat. That person who's snapping orders like
    "EP is attacking Bleakers!"
    "Go defend Aleswell!"
"Someone's got to go take Roebeck back"
Is a zone general. They may not always be right, but they are a pretty good indication of where you can expect developing fights.

As for your cowardice mechanic, it doesn't work well in an AvAvA zone that's designed for two alliances to cooperate during Emperor dethronings.

I second just joining a pvp guild. Not all of them are full of sweaty try-hards. Having a team to share your losses and defeats with is half of what makes Cyro fun.

Yes! Everybody flock to this beacon and help them repair walls! I like that idea!

On the other hand, I'm sure that top player sneaking his hit squad deep into enemy territory to recap their scroll would love to have the enemy spy back at the base watching the map and relaying his location to his comrades. I'm sure that would go over quite well!

most of them get bullied or trolled off the game by the toxics that have it pwned. I remember years ago just being able to type x and get in a group. Just not the case anymore, everyone is shady and paranoid and don't want to invite anyone. And the ones not in groups are a bunch of 1vx braggards running around trying to gank people and circle jerk in towers.

I joined a couple guilds, but they all seem to want to go green, purple or orange like the OP said and I find that deplorable. Or they want me to run certain gear and play a certain role. I go in general chat and literally beg for a pug group but they barely exist.

This is very similar to how gw2 does it.

Well, since ZOS halved the group sizes last fall it's hard to pick up extra pugs, since you can barely fit everyone in your own guild into a group. Which I'm guessing is the reason for lack of pug groups.

The solution is to fix the recurring performance issues. Gimmicks are not needed. We just need thinks to work as they did three years ago is all. Then people will flock back to cyro because it will be more fun than frustrating.

For someone who's primarily PvP'd since release it seems like ZOS is trying to, for all intents and purposes, eliminate participation in cyrodiil related activities.

While your idea may seem logical, it won't work. During the last 2x AP event top scoring player at DC Greyhost (PC EU) was a well known AD troll, who boosted AP with the help of his yellow buddies to prevent long time DC players from getting crowned.

Can't have an army with reduced population caps. At best you have 2 big fights on the huge map nowadays it seems.........

I might be the outlier, but I don't think PvP in the game needs to be that serious.

Personally, I wouldn't listen to anyone no matter what mechanic was introduced, and if my idea "fun" was ruined too often, just quit PvP.

I don't think being another player's chess piece is what I signed up for when PLAYING a game.

Agreed. The map is almost useless.

In GW2 I believe commanders show up on the map.

Groups of 12 is fine, but you should be able to have a commander on top of that, who can have up to four groups below him.

No matter how they solve it, they should make it more obvious where to go.

But that leads to another problem... that a keep capture can be done in a few minutes. This needs to be slowed down somehow.

I don't think a solo player should ever be able to capture a keep. Lesser things are ok to be captured solo - but not a keep.
