Are mushrooms/herbs worth adding to farm runs?

thomasadinkerke
Hi everyone!

I've got myself to get eso+ so now i have the space to put as much as i want inside my inventory.
I'm wondering if it's worth to add mushrooms/herbs to my farming runs.

Is it depending on the zone?

What kinds of flowers/mushrooms/herbs are worth the time of farming?

Thank you for reading ;)

I always pick mushrooms as I'm passing because the Alchemist satchels you get from daily crafting writs don't contain them, but I can't think of a time I've needed them.

I rarely farm for plants, except for the ingredients for spell power potions. I tend to massacre mudcrabs for their chitin because it can be hard to have enough for doing lots of daily alchemist crafting quests.

If you have ESO+ you won't regret farming for anything, materials generally hold their value well.

Plants and mushrooms in base-game zones can drop aetherial dust, and that chance alone makes them worth checking IMHO.
#1 tip (Re)check your graphics settings periodically - especially resolution.

Alchemy mats used to be zone dependent but not for many years now so it's pretty much random what you find but obvious stuff like nirnroot/water hyacinth share spawn points near water, for example and the fungi are typically, but not always, found at the base of trees.

As for specific farming runs that depends on what you intend to do with them other than stock-pile. It's arguably more effective/efficient to farm imperial city for tel-var(tv) stones and buy satchels from the tv merchant for 500 tv stones each and/or farm gold and buy the alchemy mats. There's also the 'shadowy supplier' passive from the dark brotherhood skill line which can provide a 1/day bunch of alchemy mats

Ingredients for spell power potions (lady smock, cornflower, namiras rot and water hyacinth) are worth a bit as are any of the mats required for alchemy craft dailies at lowest/highest levels. But some of those, like mudcrab chitin, you'd have to do a tiny bit more than picking flowers.

But if you have eso+ I'd suggest you just enable auto loot and grab everything and from everywhere including looting any container; you can sort out the trash as needed and everything harvestable ends up in the craft bag including furnishing mats and fishing bait.

Also, while you have eso+ active, I'd also suggest choosing the hireling passsives for as many crafts as you can on as many characters as you can(maybe shadowy supplier, too, since your question is about alchemy mats); stuff like purple provisioning mats pretty much come almost exclusively from hirelings (other than daily craft rewards). With those passives, craft daily rewards and even just incidental farming your craft bag will start to fill quickly.

No, nope, never. You should never pick mushrooms ever.

Now, real answer, even though it might cut down on my future fungus sales, yes, you really should. Not many players do, and there are alchemy potions that are in demand that require them.

TES III ingrained in me the value of harvesting mushrooms! ;) Seriously though, unless I don’t have time to stop or it looks like another player is already going for it, I harvest every node I come across (except water) and sell what I don’t need on guild traders. :)

I don’t do a lot of alchemy so I didn’t pick those nodes in the past, but now that I do a lot of furnishings I wish I had. Alchemical resin is a furnishing mat that rarely drops from them and I need a lot of it.

I'd give mine to you for free since they're not worth that much on my server, but i see you're PS4 NA so yeah

As mentioned before, of course, the alchemical resin that can be obtained is important for making furnishings and you can also produce potions and sell them.

I always pick up Violent Coprinus, Nightshade, Corn Flower & Columbine whenever I see them. I also murder mudcrabs for their Chitins. All 5 are worth it, as they're either used in daily alchemy writs or potions a lot of players craft.

I avoid this particular one, and instead go after its much more mild-mannered violet cousin.

Lol, I still have some in stock but thanks for the thought!

I pretty much just hit the runestone nodes for mundane runes now too. Don’t need that many other runestone bits.

On farming runs of which I do very little of I pick up up everything coming and going. Might not need it today but tomorrow who knows and why not if you have the crafting bag.

Stay strong, safe and enjoy the journey :)

Hahaha, for some reason I find the thought of a violent mushroom to be amusing enough that I've called it violent for years now.

Violet Coprinus and Corn Flower are get off my horse even if it's PvP picks. Chitins are almost as low as my stock of Greymoor regents, and so has begun the mudcrab massacre.
