Dueling etiquette

Just curious on the dueling etiquette/rules in eso. For example what skills/sets are generally frowned upon in duels?

And is streaking allowed?

Depends on the person. I personally prefer "no execute" abilities kind of duels.

Why wouldn't streak be allowed? It's a toolkit CC

Unless you are in a competition with rules, there are no rules. Generally only salty people say there are rules after they dead on the floor :)

Exactly. Unless it's an actual competition with rules that I get something for winning - I don't bother with rules and most of the time they complain after they're dead. The irony is most of the time when I let them have a rematch without rules, they still die and then they threaten to report me for cheating. It's hilarious what excuses people pull out after they die.

Line of sight and immovable potions come to mind, but unless its a structured tournament pretty much anything else goes.

Unless everyone involved agreed on rules up front, anything goes.

That's the whole point of duels.

LoS is a no no in a duel. If you have a build that needs to LoS; dont duel with it

Excessive numbers of pets, line of sighting behind physical objects, werewolf transform, casting ground damage aoe's before the duel has begun, would all be considered bad mannered. Standards change depending on who you are dueling, and obviously this is subjective to my opinion as a gm duelist.

For the healthrecovery builds guys with malubeth a lot of them complain if you use proc sets.

    I say anything goes IMO.
If you need to restrict someone's build to beat it you aren't as good as you think you are or they are using broken sets, which at the moment there are far too many

Yes LOS is annoying, but limiting duels to a tank off is boring IMO.

It really depends on what you do. I have seen the dueling tournaments and they specify rules that make sense to most of that community. I on the other hand; am not really a dueller but do so with guildies from time to time as we look at builds for Cyrodiil so its pretty much use whatever you would use there. If not; I probably would not have my speed up and would op for more damage or something.

I do wonder in the tournies, if they are allowed to adjust builds between matches when they know their next opponent? Throwing on shuffle to go against a templar as an example.

If your just randomly dueling people then there are no rules, just use whatever you like. You'll get people with a mile long list of things you can't use or do but generally just ignore them (usually they whisper it to you after you beat them along with what a scrub you are for using/doing it). It's just to force you into fighting in a way that plays to the strengths of their own build so they can win. Structure dueling tournaments are a whole other monster and they usually have very specific rules and stuff but then you know what they are ahead of time and can prepare accordingly.

This right here is the source of most saltiness in PVP. People who run glass cannons get mad about tanky builds. CQB brawlers get mad at mobility builds and so on.

People can and should play to their build's strengths. And if people get mad about it, it's only because they're not getting to fight you on favourable terms for them

IMO LoS in a duel is stupid because if I was to be LoS'd I can then also LoS or stealth, if I do that then you'll literally never find me and the duel will go on until you forfeit. Thats just not fun for anyone

first things off the top of my head...

no physical los around rocks and such. People do get annoyed at los sorc pets or engine guardian, but is deemed a far more serious offense running around rocks

using an ultimate 5 seconds into the duel

Running poisons such as increase cost or escapist. generally only double dot poisons are allowed in tourneys

Using any potions other then tripots

Dueling as a straight tank or healer

    Using defensive ultimates

    Proc sets/malacath

Certain monster sets such as troll king or malubeth are considered to be cheese

Most of these are general statements that apply to most classes. There are some class specific ones such as stealth on a nb and using corrosive on a stamdk, or running a full pet sorc.

So basically, run a Stamden with a sword/board back bar?

    Most Stamdem run with malu-eternal-mala-nma/agility-endurance.

I agree with everything on here except for only tripots, as long as it's not a ridiculous dragon bone potion that costs 2k each I have no problem with pots, lingering hp pots are nerfed and vitality pots will be more reasonable next patch as well.

On pc EU everybody uses whatever he/she wants to use. To be honest, duels are meme at this point, the powercreep in builds and classes has never been higher and there are like 2-3 classes which totally dominate the rest (stamcro, proc magdk and maybe stamden who has a bit less killing potential but is literally unkillable). In tournaments you need like 3 pages of rules to make duels even remotely fair.

Duels are kinda good to learn the game and/or test new builds tho but can't say that they are fun at this point (speaking of my server, NA has a much better dueling scene from what I've heard).
I used to think that PvP was a tragedy, but now I realize, it's a comedy.
