I'm a crafting felon!

Anyone else think it's mean of ZoS to place pickupable items near the daily crafting turn in boxes? I try my best but occasionally I grab a bottle or something by mistake instead of targeting the boxes. Of course that ends up being a bounty and then a fine if I get caught. On one hand it's aggravating and on the other it's kind of funny as you just have to know whoever designed that at ZoS did it on purpose and was laughing their heads with an evil laugh. I got a 92 gold bounty today and ended up paying it.

    Luckily PC can have addons to protect us from such a shady behavior ;)

    Oh I'm a deliberate crafting felon, most of my characters rob the crafting areas to death.

    The hit box, or whatever you call it for the safebox next to the jewelry table in Riften is enormous, and must extend partway onto the crafting table itself. I accidentally hit it several times with my crafters, until I learned to give it an extremely wide berth.

    It's one place I wish ZOS would not go full immerison and remove/lock the items so they can't be stolen. Since PC has a helpful add-on it's one in a line of many disadvantages built into the system against console players.

    I never stole borrowed items near the delivery box by accident, but it is just another reason to do writs in Elden Root - if you picked something up by "mistake", you can jump into the lake and swim to the very convenient outlaw refuge that is very close by. ;)

    Vivec City has a similar advantage. And with a very convenient Outlaw Refuge right next to the drop off area.

    In Vivec, blade-of-woe on npc next to craft turn-in and steal the weapon parked there = public service.

    The 'front' banker's gold stash on the counter in Vivec gets me every time, though. :|

    Killing that annoying wandering npc IS a public service! Thank you.

    I almost never have any problems turning in writs due to walk-about NPCs. Windhelm is another city with one of those, by the way. But what I do have problems with in certain cities is targeting a specific crate while in the third-person view.

    If I'm in Vivec City, for instance, I start with the Clothing crate, then turn to the Blacksmithing crate, but when I turn and try to interact with the Woodworking crate I somehow end up targeting the Provisioning, Jewelry, or Enchanting crate instead, which is aggravating. Windhelm is another city where that can happen, whereas it never seems to happen in Daggerfall, Rimmen, or Vulkhel Guard.

    Hmm, come to think of it, maybe those wandering NPCs are messing up the targeting? I had always thought that people were complaining about those NPCs pushing you back, or blocking access to a crate by walking in front of it, etc.

    Anyway, I'm now in the habit of switching to the first-person view as soon as I get to the crates in Vivec City or Windhelm, and it completely eliminates those pesky targeting problems.
    I've fought mudcrabs more fearsome than me!

    I have done that so many times, not just in the crafting writ drop off areas, but also in guild trader kiosks... somehow 'I didn't mean to steal this, but my controller has bad targetting', doesn't fly with the guards... >.<;

    There is nothing immersive about a mis-click causing an item to be stolen unintentionally, it is actually completely UN-immersive when the game has some goofy thing like that causing an unintended action that the player was not intending.

    There is no "accidentally" stealing stuff in the real world, I have never went to put a quarter into a parking meter and accidentally stolen a chocolate bar.

    I have had this occur a couple times in game, the most brutal spot being the cooking area in Rimmen that has food on the grill that if accidentally clicked leads to it being insta-stolen without even a warning box popping up. I did not find it immersive at all, it had the polar opposite effect to have trick game mechanics completely over-write true intent of the player. I was there to craft some food, I actually sold some stuff to the merchant, I had no intent to steal anything, the game completely jarred the RP experience of the whole action with that and actually removed me from the immersion.
