Trying to understand the discrepancy in GPU clock speeds between patches.

In Elswyr, I was running my graphics card at a stable 2200 core clock with a maxed out voltage.
Now, after a significant number of patches, I'm having to reduce to around 2000 core clock, even though my gpu has not seen excessive stress, it is clean, and I have ruled out any other related issues.
No other game has problems maintaining stability, so I am wondering if there is something that changes between patches that can account for the need to drop my clock speed by 200 to maintain stability.
