How to catch up on Lore?

Does anyone know of a site that has lore in either text or video, a way to catch up on what the heck is happening / has happened?

Especially for a new player.
You wouldn't worry so much about what other people thought about you, if you knew how little they did. - ??

I also don't know any specifics, but if you search a bit on youtube you can find 'movie' versions of dungeons. Some better, some worse.

I doubt you'll find all the lore summarised in one place. The Elder Scrolls series has been going since the early 90's with 5 main games and numerous spin-offs and has a reputation for having a lot of lore even for a long-running RPG series. Although there's a lot of things which don't directly influence the game, and about 1000 years of events which occur after ESO is set, so you don't need to worry about that if you're only playing this game.

There might well be a video which summarises the story of ESO, but I'm not sure because I rarely watch video game videos or streams, unless I'm really stuck on something and a written walkthrough isn't making sense.

For text info the Unofficial Elder Scrolls Pages is a good resource, although like I said there's a lot of lore so it helps to know what you're looking for. The ESO page is probably a good start, it's not a lore page but includes links to lots of pages which will cover relevant info like who the different Alliances are, how they formed, what they want etc.

Be sure to join https://www.reddit.com/r/teslore/ and also do read their FAQ - https://www.reddit.com/r/teslore/wiki/faq. It will help you tremendously to understand the basic lore concepts and might answer some of the questions you already have.

Meh don't worry about it. With them having Lyris and Sai main characters in Greymoor and Elswry after you could have sacrificed them (yeah spoiler) in the original story the writers have gotten lazy and just thrown the lore out the window.

Another spoiler: Sai and Lyris were able to come back because they are vampires now.

Both have covered Elder scrolls lore extensively. Fudgemuppet specifically has several videos explaining each era's timeline from 1st to 4th.

To get the general idea, read Pocket Guides from 3rd Era:
    https://www.imperial-library.info/content/pocket-guide-empire-and-its-environs-first-edition
    https://www.imperial-library.info/content/pocket-guide-empire-and-its-environs-third-edition

Note the timeline: the events are yet to happen in future - not in ESO. But these guides give the general idea of cultures and provinces of Tamriel. Also note that these guides are written by Imperials and thus depict Imperials as superior race and all others as barbaric (Nords, Khajiit, Argonians...) or very coonservative and "outdated" (Altmer). For example, you can read a vivid description of Khajiit culure and history, true mostly, but you'll notice that the sophisticated Khajiit culture is called weird and barbaric, and Khajiit themselves are called beasts.

There's one more - Emperor's Guide, it is written just before ESO events, Planemeld and Alliance War: https://www.imperial-library.info/content/emperors-guide

You kind of just gather knowledge gradually. As you play you learn more. Watch a couple of lore videos on YouTube to get a general idea of what's happening, but as I said, the more you play the more you'll understand what's happening.

There's also the excellent guide, How to Become a Lore Buff.

[Edit] Alas, I've just discovered that the Bethesda Softworks Forums will be going offline in March, but the guide can be found here instead.

"So, drinking is a sacrament to Y'ffre... because it's his way of reminding us not to take things too seriously... You know how the other Elves are. Altmer have their crystal towers, and that's how they want to be — cold and perfect. And Dunmer are just like their Red Mountain — smouldering and dark. We just want to have a drink and not worry about it."
