Hello crafters ... Does anyone have any tips on ways to get blue & purple jewelry crafting platings other than refining dust & decon? I have zero purple platings & drops for purple jewelry to decon are very low. I need the platings to complete writs!
I really wish they had not gone down this 10grains=1plating path... so tedious!
Any tips muchly appreciated!
Cheers.

OK so I finally realised that what you guys were trying to tell me is that i need to do JC writs on my non-crafter characters... yeah, I know... I'm a bit slow on the uptake So I am now doing the JC writs on 17 characters & getting a decent amount of green & blue grains... just need more purples! I guess I need to level up JC in some characters to get purples to drop from the writ returns?

@Asardes
Why would it be a waste if pvp is the content i run and have millions of ap that sit in my bank for months at a time? Flipping some to stock up on jewelry mats literally cost me nothing as I have most of the gear I want from the golden already.
In the end its an additional way to add to your mats 😉
My method is to use ap to buy boxes of gear from the cyrodiil vendors and then break them down for mats 😉
I've been doing daily JC writs on 15 characters, 1 max JC lvl, 1 JC lvl25 & the rest are ~lvl4. The upgrade mats you get from the writs themselves is very low. From 15 characters, I average 6 green grains, 1 blue grain, 1 purple OR gold grain each day. which means it would take 10-20 days to get a single purple plating!
Each writ seems to always drop either an ornate or intrinsic piece of jewelry (white) with about equal chance of either, a pulverised trait or style material & either a shipment container (high chance) OR a survey (low chance). Then there is a low possibility of it also dropping one or two improvement grains where the quality is based on the crafter level (low chance) & also possibly an empty soul gem (also low chance).
The surveys are where you can really get some improvement mat grains. Unfortunately the drop rate of surveys seems pretty low, out of 15 characters, I average 2 per day.
I am going to keep doing my JC daily writs for a month to get a decent sample rate... but I already find doing it on 15 characters to be soooooo tedious & the rewards are not satisfying. I do BGs, dolmens & Cyrodiil & decon the jewelry.. but this is also super slow... say you score 10 purple rings in one day (unlikely)... chances are you won't get a grain from all of them when deconned, so that's not even one plating! I haven't been doing the dragons... might give that a go tonight.

At max level, you get a guaranteed grain. So level up those skills!
At max tier it's approximately 15% terne, 45% iridium, 35% zircon, and 30% chromium drops (add up to more than 100% because you can get double grains, and even sometimes a full plating (10 grains))
That means with 15 characters, you can expect to get a purple plating every 2 days.
Survey drops should be about 12.5% or 1 in 8, so getting 2 a day among 15 characters is expected.
Do your writs at max level, it's well worth it!

Cheers for the information! It'll take a while to level all 13 chars to max JC level though!
2 chars are already max JC lvl but one doesn't have skill points in all the passives... so I need to get the material upgrade passives on that char. The thought of leveling 13 chars to max JC level is pretty daunting I guess if I funnel all the daily drops of intrinsic jewelry to a single char at a time it will speed up the leveling a bit.
It's a whole lotta grind just to get enough mats to craft purple set jewelry! Õ_o
Go kill dragons many many ring drop when kill, recomended South Elswer
As usual with improvement materials, the one in short supply will be the purple. They get used by construction of both purple and gold levels, but the drop rate only reflects their use in the former. I have shortages in Mastic, Grain Solvent, and Elegant Lining as well as the Zircon Plating. No problems at all with the gold level; Rosin, Tempering Alloy, Dreugh Wax, and Chromium Plating are all plentiful, because I'm not using them up so fast.
