Is it coincidence ? I mean I know it sounds like some tin foil hat theory but seriously fact those 2 numbers are identical for similar service in both ESO and Fallout 76 is kinda funny.

I simply must protest. There are no Penguin avatars for me to use in the forums.

No it is not. Fallout 76 try to follow the ESO payment model (storage space, etc) which means that ESO model is considered quite successful by Bethesda.
    Because I can!

    Apparently OP does.

Edit: At least I'm assuming as such since they seem to know the in-game currency for FO76.

The absolute audacity to copy ESO's subscription, while providing an infinitely worse wasteland world, shows how much Bethesda have fallen. The apprentice has become the master.

It’s all just metrics. 1650 must be a number that, after purchasing at specific prices set by those same metrics, leaves a balance figure that has been proven to entice players to buy more currency (usually because it leaves an amount that is not enough to buy most regularly-priced items). Cyclical incentivization.

ZOS is not Bethesda. Bethesda only copied the model because it's damned effective. The only reason they "get away with copying" is because they are both owned by ZeniMax. Heck, I'd copy ESO if I could. They are absolutely rocking it development-wise.

I don't understand how people in today's world of google can somehow not understand Bethesda is not ZeniMax Online Studios. It seems like a no brainer but eh it is what it is I guess.

But they belong to the same company so redlink was kinda right. Probably the owner of both companies decided about business model

If I buy the £100 subscription I want a hand written letter from the Dev Team saying how much of a sucker I am for paying that for a dead game

ZeniMax doesn't work that way. Most holding companies don't work that way. There was no agreement. Its a friendly copy from one company that doesn't do multiplayer from a sister company that does. It's not anymore complex than that.
Hell, ZOS probably loaned them the code for it.

Everyone thinks this is some massive conspiracy rather than the laziness it actually is.

When I heard about that Fallout 76 subscription I was wondering if ZOS will introduce something similar in ESO. I mean having access to your "own private" server would probably solve some performance issues. But I guess two different subscription models as well as a cash shop probably looks a bit too greedy.

The best thing is, FO76 scrapbag eats your crafting materials - just like ESO used to back when it started.
Maybe they just copied the code with bugs and all. :p

They just dropped the ball entirely on their PR for the F76 subscription thing.

Anyone familiar with games like Ark & Conan Exiles knows about paying for private servers. And from what I've heard $100/year isn't too far off base for that service.

But instead they pushed it as this "subscription" idea, with all the f2p/sub bonuses (cash currency every month! bonus storage space! etc!) and it came out looking much more awful.

edit: yeah, and that was before the launch of the system ended up bugged to hell. The whole F76 project seems cursed.

Monetization i believe is dictated by the parent company, not the developers.

The parent company for the developers of FO76 would be BETHESDA SOFTWORKS.
Bethesda Softworks is a PUBLISHER OWNED BY ZeniMax Media.
BETHESDA GAME STUDIOS is the developer of FO76.

    Hierarchy is:

ZENIMAX MEDIA > BETHESDA SOFTWORKS > BETHESDA GAME STUDIOS

Little known fact. Zenimax was founded by the same guy who founded Bethesda Softworks and it was created to replace Media Tech LTD. who used to be the parent company of Bethesda Softworks.

So TLDR unlike most parent companies while ZeniMax Media has the RIGHT to tell bethesda game development studios what to do they generally use the hierarchy structure above. IE, In general, the Bethesda(s) self manage and ZeniMax is focused on investors. Exceptions exist yes but they always do.

In this case, ESO and FO76 share the same publisher, and they have a say in how the game is monetized, I am sure. Might even be some of the same people involved.

    Hello everyone,

With this thread being more meant to discuss another game's features, we're going to go ahead and close it down. For further posts, we ask that you keep things more ESO related.

    Thank you for understanding.
