Furniture recipes

I've been farming non stop in Morrowind for the telvanni/dres/indoril/hlaalu/redoran recipes now and I only found 3 of the previous mentioned in a week's time. I'm pickpocketing, opening every container... yet I don't seem to get any at all. I've been farming the tombs as well, yet still I get none (not counting greens, since I've collected all of them except Clockwork city ones). What am I missing? What am I doing wrong? I'm getting motifs (armor) pretty frequently, but next to no recipes. What daedric prince do i have to make a deal with to be able to finally get me some dark elf furniture?

In all seriousness, farming 10+ hours a day and not getting anything is pretty annoying and it feels as if I'm doing something wrong. I don't really want to buy everything, I want the fun of collecting the stuff. I've been at this for a bit longer than the morrowind event has been going on and I have yet to find a purple recipe.

Trying to resist the urge of telling you that "Ur doing it wrong!"... Ah, dang it, there, failed to restrain myself. .I do apologize for the jest, but you see, this topic bring back bad memories. Very bad memories.

The drop rate for Morrowind furnishings is atrociously low. Quite possibly some of the rarest things to drop in this game. You can find them on people (i.e. pick pocket - but that is so rare that it will basically never happen. You can find them in pilferable containers - though that too is really really really rare.) And if you wanna go for super rare option, then I suppose there is the theoretical chance of a mob dropping one as loot.

The most reliable source for them, however, are urns located in the delves scattered about VVardenfell.

There are two good dungeons you can farm for them, namely Dreloth Ancestral Tomb and Hleran Ancestral Tomb. The latter has more urns, but they are scattered about the delve, where as the former has most of them located in one room. Both have about 100.

Both have an associated quest. THe Dreloth quest will cut 15 or so containers from being farmable if you finish it, but it doesn't really matter. Since in that delve you will be focusing on farming the one room with lots of urns anyway. The quest for Hleran needs to be done to open Ashlander daily missions, and once done turns the monsters in the delve non-hostile. If you are gonna be doing Ashlander dailies, you might as well swing by the tomb when ever you are picking up your daily quests, and when you are returning for rewards. That's what I did. Back when I was doing them.

For maximum farming - run through the delve with a character and loot everything. Then log of and do the same with another character. Do this with at least 3 other characters and then go back to the first one. At that point everything has reset and you can basically just keep farming the delve non stop. I suggest listening to some decent podcast or an audio book to make the exerciser at least tolerable.

Note that the droprates are truly truly bad. You need to open several thousand urns on average to get a purple furnishing plan to drop, and there are no guarantees it is a Morrowind one. It can be a base game one, and more often than not, it is gonan be a base game plan.

Back when I was farming for the things, I did hundreds of runs in these tombs. Hundreds. I found three purple Morrowind recipes. I sold them all and made well over a million. But that was back then. Terse days, farming them is a bad idea and generally a waste of your life.

If you really want Morrowind furnishing plans, then buying them from guild store is your best bet.

You see... Some time ago, they added Morrowind plans to the Master Writ Merchant. 50 vouchers will buy you a random purple Morrowind plan. 20 a blue.

That means that most plans are available in guild stores for less than 50k a pop. If you have several crafters, you can also grind the vouchers yourself and buy them that way.

In fact, if you do crafting writs on... say eight characters a day, you will get enough gold to buy about one purple plan form a guild store. You may also get gold tempers and other stuff that you can sell, and thus buy more plans. And if you get master writs, you can do those for vouchers to spend on the plan envelopes.

That really is the best way to do it these days. You will never find even 10% of them through farming. To get them that way, you'd hafta farm nonstop, 12 hours a day, for the next 6 moths.

Alright, so I have been doing everything correctly. This is sad. There's really no fun in just buying everything, and gold is a thing you need for just about everything. But I guess that will be the end of me farming non stop in Morrowind. Is it any better for say Murkmire/Clockwork city? Or is this just a massive game flaw?

Now for the base game, if I want furniture of a certain race, what is the best way to go about that? Any place like the Hleran tomb for each race/ for random drops?

Murkmire and Clockwork city are even worse in terms of the places where you can pick up blueprints. The droprate is about the same, but the lack of decent places to farm blueprints makes Murkmire diagrams even more rare.

If you really want to get Morrowind furniture plans, you are better off buying Morrowind furnisher documents from Faustina Curio. This is the best option: you need writ vouchers here, which you can't buy, but can get by completing Master Crafter Writs.

It's the same rate everywhere. Maybe slighly better rates for thematic zones, because I keep getting Redguard furniture plans in Hew's Bane (by which I mean I found whooping 3 of them total, and 3 out of 3 were Redguard blueprints), so ZOS might have changed drop tables to favor thematic ones more

Like you, I prefer to find furnishing plans myself instead of buying. Farming, as I understand it (doing the same thing/route for hours on end) would suck the fun out of it for me, so what I've been doing since I started the Morrowind story is to "make a little detour" while questing to go check a tomb and/or steal.

I've done all the quests there, but still go back to do dailies, and when I do, I check places that might have some stuff.

This is what I've found out (lots of assumptions too):

    - You'll get lots and lots of repeated recipes. LOTS. Eventually, for me (your experience might be different), I noticed new recipes being introduced in my finds. I'm beginning to get more blue recipes and don't expect to get any purple one any time soon.
    - Don't dismiss ANY looting area. That includes the first tomb we enter to start the main quest, the archcannon's quarters and Vivec's private quarters.
    - mobs can drop furnishing recipes. I haven't gotten any "good" ones so far, but I've gotten drops from them.
    - you can get recipes from pick pocketing. I *think* they mostly drop from crafters, though.
    - this might be my brain needing rituals, but I leave nothing behind when I loot/steal (I don't know how to even explain the "logic" behind that).

I'm always baffled when people say they went looting and got nothing out of a tomb. I always get at least one furnishing pattern out of each one. They might be ones I already have, but I do get them every single time.

TL;DR: if you decide to obtain all the recipes by your own means (no buying/trading/gifts) it will take a long, long time.

Yeah I usually get a few, but when writing this I just had like 2 runs without anything at all. I'm pretty sure I have all green recipes right now but the clockwork ones (I went on a spending spree when I saw that a lot of recipes were under 1k gold on guild traders). I prefer to get stuff myself, because it is more exciting to get a purple drop than a purple in the mail. I still spend all my time in Morrowind, I've gotten just about every meta achievement for looting/harvesting now, including the one for opening 1k treasure chests (far above that now), breaking in to 100 homes, I went from nearly no pick pockets to 800+ now and got most Telvanni/Hlaalu motifs and a few redoran ones...

Hell, I even got 4 buoyant armiger motifs by opening so many chests. But I quit trying to get purps, blew all my gold on the telvanni recipes (had enough to buy 4 so far) and I'll just do it this way. Unfortunate, but there seems to be no other way. I'd like to start decorating my Tel Galen asap and not be burned out by the time I get to the point where I can. That said, I hope they do consider making drop rates at least a tad higher, for the thematic ones at the very least. Also would like them to add the amber versions to furniture recipes in the near future, makes no sense they're not available.

"Just buy it" is the way to go. I do pick up everything I stumble upon (plus pickpocketing), but recipes are so rare, there is no point in doing farm runs.

One thing I noticed is that if you go from one tomb to another too fast, the second tomb will have all/most of the containers empty.

It's really hard to resist buying furnishing patterns, but I do get more enjoyment when I find them, so I solved the problem by not looking. Although sometimes I can't resist...

As for style pages I have zero Buoyant Armiger ones but have at least half of the types of each one of the others and I only started pick pocketing there a few weeks ago (I was too afraid about getting caught. Then I got the blade of woe).

If you ever feel lonely while doing your looting rounds and want company, contact me in game (PC/NA same as my handle here). I'll also be happy to take you on a lovely scavenging tour of CWC where we can "borrow" furnishing recipes from the town's citizens.

Yeah my guildies say the same thing, don't go straight from one place to the other. As for the Buoyant Armiger motifs, you seem to only get those from Advanced and Master chests + psjiic portals. I do runs around morrowind at night when there's barely anyone online so I get all chests for myself, but even still I only have 4 motif pages. It's probably one of the hardest motifs to get without buying.

I have gotten a Buoyant Armiger motif (daggers iirc) from a treasure map chest. Just FYI.

    Oh...what a shame.

I thought of you when I was playing last evening. I got my first purple furnishing pattern from a tomb! The Redoran setee.
I was tempted to log in the forum just to tell you to not lose hope and keep on looking. I am sure they'll drop for you too.

BTW, I also got a blue Morrowind furnishing pattern from a pick pocket yesterday.

I suspect there is a threshold for getting those - one only starts to get blue patterns after they acquire/learn X numbers of green patterns, and so on.
So far, this is how it's been working for me. I got (and still get) a lot of green patterns, but began to get blue drops. I might be finally at a point where purple ones are beginning to be added to the pool.

I don't know if this is true for the whole world. I think it's more likely that this is area-wise.

I got one style page from a Psijic portal so far - the very first one I found as soon as I started my adventure in Morrowind. It was, if memory serves, a Morag Tong one.

For now I'm chalking it up to not have opened enough chests. In all the time I've been roaming Vvardenfell I've seen less than 6 master chests total and a handful of advanced ones.

I'm in no hurry, though. The way I see it, if there is a chance of it dropping, I'll eventually get it. I'm stubborn like that.

Yeah I have a feeling you're supposed to get a certain amount of green recipes before you'll obtain blue/purple ones. I have gotten a few more blues now, both from pickpocketing and just random containers, most of them are not dark elf themed tho.

Psiijic portals can give anything valueable really, from purple gear to motif pages only obtained through certain actions. I've opened over 30 master chests and probably 100 advanced chests now, and still only have 4 buoyant armiger parts, at least one obtained from a portal.

I'm still running around Morrowind mainly, there's no point for me being anywhere else. I'm waiting to level my alts untill wrathstone for the zone guide, and I need the resources on my main anyway since it's my crafter.

^ I don't really think that's the case, but rather blue plans are rare, with purple plans being MUCH rarer. It may seem to work the way you propose since you can easily loot 10 green plans before even seeing a blue one. Even now, with all the green plans I know - I still get them more frequently than blues and certainly purples. Purples are rare, period. Plus, I highly doubt that ZOS has included such a "sophistication" in their furnishing plan loot table, wherein certain plans start dropping more based on what you've already looted/learned.

ETA: Case in point, my spouse started a new character for Summerset, with absolutely no furnishing plan knowledge, and the first plan he looted in the tutorial area was a blue one - an Alinor one even. I specifically remember since I'm the housing enthusiast and was jealous that he had gotten a blue Alinor plan right off the bat, while I didn't see a single Alinor plan (even a green one) until several days in.
