Launcher crashing on startup + outdated client

Hello!
I installed the game yesterday and I've run into two different issues; the first being that the launcher crashes right on startup, with the error message being "launch path not accessible". I can, however, get the client to start up when I go into the game_mac file, then the pubplayerclient map and then start the eso file there, but after trying to log in, that, too, crashes, but with the error "Invalid or outdated client".
I have tried running the launcher with root privileges, but this just returns the exact same error running it the usual way does.
I'm a bit at a loss here. Any suggestions on how I could solve this issue?
