Mages Guild Final Quest Won't Trigger

I'm in Bangkorai and I went to the Mages guild there after finishing the Chateau of Rodents quest and Valaste is there along with the purple pillars of light. However, she has no quest-giver marker and when I speak to her she says she's translated the final book and then says--because she's gone mad--something about "monkey run butter." No quest. Am I doing something wrong? Or any suggestions?

Okay, so I had an intuition and went to the "Quests and Exploration" subforum and sure enough there was a person encountering the same problem. However, I did what was recommended in that thread and traveled to all the Mages Guilds in the cities in my alliance. Shalidor never appeared. At any of them. I'm can't help but be a little apprehensive he will not appear, ever. Any help/suggestions to get this to work is much appreciated.

I had a problem with mages guild quests not popping up and my husband told me I needed to level my mages guild skill line for it to proc. I know they reworked all of the solo quest stuff so that shouldn't happen, but it is so screwy and backwards it doesn't seems to be uniform throughout all lines. It is worth a try to grab some lorebooks and get it to the next level to see if that fixes it. Beyond that I am not sure because ZOS has turned this game into a cluster you-know-what...

Thank you for the reply. Yeah I'm at guild level 4 right now and I think originally you needed to be 5 for this quest to trigger, before they supposedly changed that requirement. Okay, so I'll look for some lorebooks. Hopefully that works. Did that end up working for you?

Okay, so I got to rank 5 after scouring lorebooks. Went to Stormhaven mages guild. Sure enough, Shalidor popped up. "Great to see you!" Tell me about it. Thanks very much VodkaVixen. Issue resolved.
