What is "sit" for?

When you place the reticule on a chair, bench, or other item on which your character can "sit", the game client displays the Interactive Prompt to "Use" the furnishing. If you place the reticule on a chair, bench or other furniture which is made for characters to sit upon, but is not possible to seat your character on the item in the position that it has, then the game client displays the word "Sit" next to the reticule.

It looks kinda silly, but I suppose the feature designer thought that would be an appropriate indication as to whether a character can actually sit on the furniture, because all chairs, benches, etc. in Tamriel are, in theory at least, usable for the character to sit upon. But most of them aren't usable.

EDIT: if the software did not do anything when the reticule is placed on a chair, bench, or other item on which a player believes that their character should be able to sit, then they would be posting bug reports about it on this forum. Personally, after I placed the reticule on a chair, bench, etc. where I believed my character should be able to sit, but there is neither an Interactive Prompt nor a display of the "Sit" response, then I would not bother to report it unless, for some reason, it truly matters.
