PVP Damage

I've just started investing time into PVP, I figured I'd get my build I wanted and then practice with a PvP guild. I decided to go for a high damage(not ganking) Stamblade as I've encountered a lot of HA/Damage Shield players and figured it would be even better for lower defense players. After a bit of math and testing on my wife's DK who can hit the Resistance Cap almost exactly, the hardest I was able to hit for was around 4800 on non-crits(not a sneak attack). I have 441 Champion Points and can hit around 4500WD and 30000 Max Stamina with 100 points into Mighty. My strategy has been to chase high weapon damage and penetration as the penetration would help with damage shields and the crit would be heavily mitigated by impen and resistant. What is the highest damage I should expect to get against a High Resistance (29-33k) player? Is the 4800 damage on the higher end or am I doing something wrong? I'm starting to suspect that high damage is impossible on HA targets and that I should learn to go the distance in those fights. Either way I want to "l2p" and "GG", any advice on the build and general tips for a Stamblade learning to fight in Cyrodill would be much appreciated.

penetration doesn't work on damage shields. Penetrations works on armour so if you want to do more damage on HA targets get more penetration.

if you want more damage on damage shields, get more WD/stam.

Honestly you shouldn't be attacking people who have 33k resistances in Cyrodiil at all. The only people with that kind of resists are pure trolltank builds that aren't meant to actually kill enemy players.

Your usual heavy armor 25k HP DPS build only has anywhere from 16-25k resists depending on weapon and buffs, where 25k is a 1h/shield user with major armor buff up and 16k is a DW/2h/bow user without a buff up which often happens in gank situations.

Now you will sometimes find a black rose user who is using 1h/shield and Bloodspawn who can pretty easily reach ~31-32k resists and still do decent damage, but those are the people that I just escape from if I can't kill them.

I'm a Templar pure DPS build and I can get 30k on each resist quite easily. That Templar circle is quite useful.

That's cool. My heavy armor templar DPS build hits about 21k resists with major wards up on my DW bar, and 25kish on 1h/shield bar. Not sure what you're using to get the extra 5k if you're a full DPS build, maybe reinforced and defending 1her or something.

I take it you're fully buffed when you have those resistances right? I mentioned that the lower range is for people who are unbuffed. Again, the heavy armor DPS people are running at most 5 heavy so they can go 2 light or 2 medium depending on stam/mag (or 1/1). I gank these people constantly - they are like 50% of players in Cyrodiil right now. Like I said, you'll run into some people who've focused on resists and get higher mitigation but I really don't think that counts as a DPS build at that point if they're using defending traits and the like.

My magsorc dd with 2 heavy/5 light has around 12k resists. (don't use any buffs to it). If I remember correctly, when he used 5 heavy it was only around 14k.

My stamsorc is a more balanced build. I wouldn't call it a tank but its leaning more that way than dd - and has around 31k (7 heavy, s+b, + major and minor armour buffs + defending weapon - never did find a sharpened one - oh, and there may be a single resistance bonus from a gear set too). These resistances are only achieved by giving up some damage.

Basically, you don't just slap on 5 heavy and hit cap. And as Kutsuu says, I don't think many in cyro are on or near the cap apart from pure tanks and the odd wierdo like me.

Those have to be spell resist only, and you are breton. Those numbers do not match up without something else in play, otherwise.

Those have to be spell resist only, and you are breton. Those numbers do not match up without something else in play, otherwise.

2 heavy with one being torso reinforced should put you at ~17k physical resistance with an active armor buff.

On backbar defending weapon adding 5k resis checks out. Spellresist on breton for this is ~29k for me.

From my perspective, the 50% of Cyrodiil that you mention are full-on DPS builds that have 5 heavy, such as black rose, and don't have anywhere near 33k resists. My gank build can only penetrate around ~18k armor, but I'm still 1-shotting these so-called tanks.

Sure, there are actual trolltanks out there. Just not so many of them and they are very easy to recognize with their 30-38k HP. All these "tanky" DPS builds run in the 23-27k HP range.
