Unable to aim siege weapons after ALT-ing out

I have noticed recently that, after setting up a siege weapon and then ALT-ing out, when I re-crew it, I have lost my aiming reticle and the weapon will only fire a short distance to the front. Alt-ing out and then using it again usually fixes the problem, but sometimes it takes multiple tries.
