Difficulty arriving back into PvP

Hello All,

Wanted to ask the community some advice as I'm a returning player from awhile back who's struggling in the current setup of PvP. I can't even last a minute within most of the pvp fights unless I'm surrounded by healers. Trying to find the difference between necessities at the moment, and what I need to gain before I go back into PvP.

Some information regarding the subject:

Used to heavily play a Magblade. Loved it, Did a Dual Wield/Resto Staff build that I really soared with in small group PvP in Cyrodiil. When I came to return, I noticed it was at the bottom of the ladder and I needed to try to adapt to the new environment.

Switched to a Stamblade trying to use this build as a template:

Currently i'm only 90 Champion levels in at the moment so I'm quite far from capping the Champion points at the moment. Also don't even have a single Proc set yet, and thus it seems the build may rely upon it. Or.. PvP itself might currently rely upon it.

Main question is, What is a necessity to survive in the current PvP environment? What should I have to at least see a decent result from an average skilled player?

Any answers would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you.

Get to CP160 and get some Black Rose armour if you're switching to stamina. Magblade doesn't need fancy procs, why not stick with it? Just craft some impenetrable trait gear with an emphasis on damage for now, all the good gear is at CP160.

Typically alot of the information I was receiving was that Magblade was significantly underperforming the majority of all other class setups. Most of my information was from a variety of Youtube PvPers as well as the forums on here. Simply seemed logical if I wanted to see any results or begin to get out of my comfort zone of Magblade. What makes Magblade not need procs?

Typically Magblades will kite their opponents wearing them down to a point where an Ultimate will finish them off, when outnumbered they can flee or fight very well. All this is done well by stacking everything into Magicka for higher damage and defence in the form of damage shields. One of the best sets imo for getting max Magicka (over 60k) is Necropotence and using shade.

Which campaign are you playing in? Azuras Star is now a no-CP campaign (all CPs are disabled), so it's probably worth using that until you're closer to the cap. There is a huge power difference between CP90 and CP561.
Magblades are still working fine, by the way, especially in Azuras. You might want to look into some of the new sets if you're a little behind. As mentioned by Will, Necropotence is great for maxing out your magicka (higher damage + shields), but quite a few magblades are also using Spinners these days for added spell penetration.

I play stamblade, the following are key for me:
    • Agility Jewellery for the Weapon Damage.
    • Viper x 5 for the proc, obviously.
    • Avoid red circles, particularly those with clouds above them.
    • Just don't bother trying to fight sorcs who stand in the open taking no damage.
    • Try and watch the fights before bursting in.

You should really go for a no-CP build and play in Azuras until you are CP350+. It's just too much of a disadvantage in CP campaigns. I'd also try to get CP160 and attain a full set of max level gear before putting too much time into cyrodiil (it's good to take breaks from PVE there).

Taking advice from the streamers/youtubers/forums will often make you miss out on good things. They like to say that all Magicka builds (except for templars) are bad in PVP, but it's either a running joke that everyone's in on or they are crazy. Magblade is more versatile and can be more survivable than Stamblade. Something like Necropotence+Willpower+Monster Set with destro/resto would be a good starting point.

as others have stated, AS would prob be the best campaign to be in... proc sets aren't a necessity the only "proc" pieces I run on my main that I PvP mainly with is Grothdarr on my mDK ... other than that ive been running 5H Kags ... was thinking of changing that though to something with a little more sustain though

Don't believe it, one of the toughest people I know is a magblade, and in my experience magblades are a ton tougher to kill than Stamblades on average.
