What is a good set for magblade light armor with good sustain and damage

I have now a closet full of different armor sets and none are to my liking.

I started with crafted julianos and 2 molag kena and 2 torug pact swords and 3 willpower jewels. It worked well but I needed more sustain. So I removed julianos and 1 molag kena and wore 3 archemage and 3 syrabene (which both give +129 SD and 129 mag reg) so I had a bit lower damage then full julianos but more magreg.

Then I tried spinner, magnus, seducer and various other LA-sets. I also tried black rose but my magicka run out to quick.

So I am back to my first set. Although in my mind spinner is better because of penetration since everybody runs HA anyway.

Anyway, I can still manage myself but I was curious what set is actually used for magblades by other (melee) magblades.

Currently I sit on 2700 SD, 40% spell crit and 2300 regeneration unbuffed and 37k magicka. But of course when I play on non-cp campaign some stats are lower.

Yesterday I spent almost all day shopping and trying on sets.

Blending the disciplines of the stealthy agent and subtle wizard, I move unseen and undetected, foil locks and traps, and teleport to safety when threatened, or strike like a viper from ambush. The College of Illusion hides me and fuddles or pacifies my opponents. The College of Mysticism detects my object, reflects and dispels enemy spells, and makes good my escape. The key to a nightblade's success is avoidance, by spell or by stealth; with these skills, all things are possible."

Lich is probably the best single Magicka sustain set. Please tell me you're weaving light attacks and using Siphoning Strikes - most magicka NBs don't need more sustain than that. If you're trying to ranged fight as a dw or 1h/s nightblade, you would do much more damage and have better sustain with a Dstaff just light attack weaving with your skills despite lower spell damage.

I am not the best (I might be the worst) light attack weaver and animation canceller. I just can't get it right.

I will try destroy staff because I like fire and weave light attacks with siphonings to see if I can get it right.

And I will try to find lich set  Thanks.

Edit: Wow this does look nice:

(5 items) When you fall below 33% Magicka, increase your Magicka Recovery by 1032 for 20 seconds. This effect can occur once every 1 minute.

Might spent the next few months in Crypt of hearts with my RNG-luck.

Go with friends and you'll have a lot more opportunities to trade for the traits/pieces that you need (assuming they don't also need the same lich pieces you do).

Light attack weaving is definitely something to get accustomed to on a Nightblade - and the timing is very forgiving. Just press light attack and immediately press your ability. If you see the light attack isn't going off just wait a tiny bit before hitting the ability. Some people bind the attack key to a button on their keyboard instead of using the mouse to weave, it can make the timing feel easier. Siphoning Strikes restores 1k mag/stam on every light attack, which is HUGE - that's almost the cost of swallow soul.

Ok nice. My swallow soul only costs 922 magicka currently so that's a free skill then. Currently I already have my attack button set on keyboard since I hardly use them anyway. I have 5 mouse buttons programmed for 3 for skills, 1 for radial menu and 1 for ultimate.

When I come home I will try on mobs in Craglorn.

Maybe, but the style is Argonian. Enough reason not to wear it.

Does the shadow form count as pet? I love my shadow image.

theres a problem with LA weaving and Swallow Soul - your attacks will most likely be almost medium, still fine, just beware that weaving properly may take a little learning curve with Funnel/Swallow

as far as sets, I screw around a lot, I love StormFist - especially when it procs off Crippling Grast and they basically sit still and take ALL the damage from the Stormfist proc

but I just run around in normal PVE gear, gold light divines Julianos but my Monster sets are always Medium/Heavy for Undaunted 9

you can try and use Clever Alchemist and/or Kena, Kena proc is easy and you don't actually have to do 2 LA's as long as you weave your LA"s

theres far better Nightblades out there then me who actually care to do well, so there's that

you can try and pair Clever Alchemist with Lich or pair it with Necropotence and use Shade, that's also fun to screw around with people (use teleport shade, just watch out where you place it if fighting more then 1 person)

you could also pair Clever Alchemist with Elegance set and gank with Magelight and heavy attack, but I don't know how consistant heavy attacks are anymore as far as getting full damage on one and not sitting there after hitting someone with a 3k heavy lol

If you want to stick with dw, I'd say try out kag's with lich and light attack weave to the best of your abilities with siphoning attacks up. Otherwise as others have suggested, try switching to a destro staff and weave with funnel/swallow soul, keep up cripple, time out a meteor-agony-assassin's will proc combo to finish.

I don't use dw so I never felt a need for more sustain via lich. But if you want to switch to destro then I'd say you'd be fine with weaving and using almost any set. I like necropotence quite a bit, but I'm accustomed to using shadow image 24/7. I'm not sure how much/if you have run vma, but if you have the winterborn set and a sharpened maelstrom ice staff then that can be a pretty fun combo to mess around with as well. For what it's worth, I most enjoyed winterborn when I played in a group vs. tons of enemies whereas I preferred necropotence when running around alone.

If you want to get into bombing or ganking, then clever alchemist is a great option but you won't have any sustain so it's a different playstyle.

These stats impress me if you are truly unbuffed for this. When I see numbers like these I always question if my game is broken because these numbers are closer to my buffed numbers with the exception of regen, which unbuffed for me is 1300. This is what potions are for. You say you are using Kena, which is the anti-regen set, basically, as when you proc it skill cost jumps up 33%. Sometimes when I want to drop a bomb(Meteor) I'll use two Kena, but then I usually will need a breather to recoup some magicka. I feel you on the lack luster mag-melee. There isn't enough damage, especially against tanks. I am working really hard to get it to work but what I see is a very unique and less than effective playstyle. I've even gone full stupid and have no impen just to see if I can get any kind of real damage, which I can't unless I find another LA target with < 23K health.

well im unbuffed now and not in cyrodill. I changed some stuff but still have 2500 SD and now 2400 regeneration and 39k magicka. Currently i wear 1 piece impen because my stupid helmet is sturdy. My other gear is divined.

I was about to craft krag set so i can resurrect allies faster.

I was thinking Krag, shadowrend 2 pieces (|if i get the helmet) and 3 willpower and 2 torug pact.

I just can't find the darn Earth Forge :(

Edit: i don't duel because i would die in one second. I have to rely on suprise to cyrodill it is :)

Earth forge=fighters guild place that you unlock at the end of the quest line. For me in ep, it was always a portal in the fighter's guild in Riften.

Those stats aren't that bad I think they are a little on the low end with all the new sets out but they will fair fine in most cases. What I'm running is 1 internal guardian, 1 *grauthgar*, 5 alchemist, and 5 necroprentence, and fully buffed my stats sit around 53k magicka, 4000 sd, and 2100 regen, and unbuffed I'm at like 47k max magicka, and 2300 sd. I would give something like this a try I've hit people for 22k assassins will with this set up. you can even burst someone in black rose down if your ultimate and assassins will both crit together. As a magblade I would try to focus on sets that boost Max magicka instead of spell damage because 1000 magick is around 100 spell damage, but magicka is easier to stack and it makes you tankier because it increases your shield size

My opinion of best mag nb build:
    Head: light chokethorn impen
    Shoulder: light kena impen
    Chest: heavy medusa impen
Legs: medium or light julianos impen
    Gloves: light julianos impen
    Belt: light julianos impen
    Boots: light julianos impen
Neck: medusa (yes I know it's healthy) (sp dmg enchant)
Ring1: medusa (yes I know it's healthy) (sp dmg enchant)
Ring2: medusa (yes I know it's healthy) (sp dmg enchant)
    Sword1: julianos sharpened
    Sword2: medusa sharpened
    RestoStaff: julianos defending

Food: witches potent brew (health, max mag, mag recovery)

    Mundus: thief (inc crit chance)

You sit kind of low with max magic approx 36k, you could increase this a few different ways but I don't think it's as important.
Medusa gives +12% inc crit dmg at all times, so it's important you crit as much as possible. You still need Julianas because you have to have decent spell damage which makes the pair perfect.

Since the medusa sharpened sword is so hard to get, I have compensated by removing the monster helm & shoulder & using torug or vicious death swords & using medusa heavy legs & light shoulder +helm of julianos

It's not bad at all, but it will be so much better if you can get the medusa sharpened sword!

You can try emberplasem ( drops in matzatum dungeon), it gives 300~ magicka and stam regen. Also there is a new bufffood from the festivel, health magicka and magicka regen i think. You can also take the thief mundus for more crit and get regen over enchant or setboni.

I need an example because I don't understand it well. Let's say my character sheet sais I have

    - 2100 spelldamage
    - 30k magicka

So now I wear let's say Julianos which gives around 300 spelldamage (and boosts my spelldamage to 2400)

Would I wear Necropotence I would get around (withy my pet out) 6000 magicka I would have 36k magcika. But my spell damage on my character sheet stays 2100. But my skills sais it does more damage when i have 36k magicka compared to 30k magicka.

How is this calculated? Where does the spelldamage on character sheet comes into factor if the amount of magicka increases my skill damage more.

I am confused. It might be because I didn't have my coffee yet though.

Edit: ok, I used the simplified forumula I found on http://tamrielfoundry.com/topic/pts-2-1-2-sorcerer-arithmagic/

    effective pool = magicka + 10.5*spelldamage

So in the first example it would be 30.000 + 10.5*2400= 72025200

    The second one would be: 36.000 + 10.5*2100 = 75622050

The effectiveness of the second one is higher. So using the necropotence set over julianos would yield into more damage overall and having a larger resource pool. Although I would miss the critical change. But using that in a formula would drive me nuts. Guess I just go grind in rivenspire for the necropotence and just try them both out DPS wise.

Your tooltip damage is primarily determined by 2 character stats depending on whether your build is magicka or stamina focused. Since you're playing a magicka build, it's determined by your max magicka and spell damage. There are also other factors that affect your damage output, but for the sake of brevity, I have excluded them.

Approximately 10.5 magicka is equal to 1 spell damage. So this is why you're seeing an increase on your tooltip damage with Necropotence versus Julianos.

If you'd like to learn more about this, I'd recommend checking out @Asayre 's in-depth thread on Tamriel Foundry. I believe it's up-to-date, but I cannot confirm.

Haha I was just reading that when you answered this

Great site, and it seems I need to study this when I get home. That, and I will grind the necropotence set so I can just test it out and see the difference in DPS using one skill.

"I am a nightblade.

You can try emberplasem ( drops in matzatum dungeon), it gives 300~ magicka and stam regen. Also there is a new bufffood from the festivel, health magicka and magicka regen i think. You can also take the thief mundus for more crit and get regen over enchant or setboni.

    Second this.
Been having luck with: Amberplasm 5x (4 body, 1 jewel), transmutation 2-3X (resto, body, jewel), 3x willpower (weapon and jewel) + monster helm. If I'm using dw I use malubeth to survive more melee encounters - and if destro I like infernal guardian.

Destro bar: merciless resolve, cloak, crushing shock, destructive reach, piercing mark or crippling grasp, soul assault.

--> pretty sure you can chain cc crushing shock and destructive reach. Heavy attack, crushing shock interrupt, light attack, reach, and soul assault = dead stamina user.

Resto bar: rapid maneuver or elusive mist, dampen magicka, siphoning attack, healing ward, mass hysteria, ice comet.

If you're a dunmer check out burning spellweave plus silks of the sun and vma destro (or one decent monster piece)

    If you are ranged : 5 Necropotence + 5 Amberplasm + Master/maelstrom staves

If you are dual wielding : 5 Necropotence + 5 Amberplasm + 2 pièces of monster set (2 different set like kena + infernal guardian or a 2 pièces set active)

This is the best damage/recovery deal. Be a vampire also.

If you don't care about stamina recovery, go lich instead of amberplasm.
