Are they adding a token system?

Those crown crates. If you win an item you already have you get gems which accumulate until you have enough to buy something from the crate. Isn't that a token system? Or am I wrong? I just realized I'm not clear on what a token system is.

When people talk about a token system they mean that, for example, when you finish Maelstrom Arena you get a "ticket" let's say from the chest that will allow you to go choose your own loot instead of being offered a random piece of gear. With the introduction of 100% drop rate in the final chest it helped a bit but perhaps people want even more choice with the token. Eg go to Fan-nuit and tell him "Oh here's my ticket, I want to choose a greatsword" for example.

The updated pledge chests also kinda go towards that way with different chests offering different monster sets. So you can spend your key on a chest that you know contains one of sets you want. I think there will be like 3-4 choices of monster helms so you don't have to gamble on the wider variety of sets available esp with the introduction of 16 new ones

I see. That sounds like it would be good if they added that for gear. I'm just dreading my lack of impulse control coming into play the day the crates are released.
