Concerning PVP mechanics question

So I've been running and adjusting my build and I am quite satisfied with it but there is something I don't understand. Why does my damage against players is like 40% less or even more, some spells do 500 instead of the 3k that it said its gonna do and when am targeted with these spells and I die, I check the history and I took the full amount of damage, and in pve the spells do the full amount of damage is there anything nerfed for pvp am missing here ?

    Three things.

    One, in PvP there is a modifier called Battle Spirit. Damage is halved.
    Two, players invest in physical, spell and crit resistance in a way that NPCs don't.
    Three, players invest in crit and penetration to counter #2. NPCs don't.

    My guess is that you haven't done #2 or #3 and you are getting lit up like a pinata when you encounter players who have.

    Is your gear 160? That is my problem, mine is not gold 160, and so when I go against people with gold 160 i just get squished. It is really REALLY vexing IMO that you have to pve to get good gear sets, yes there are pvp sets in IC, but if you arent a nightblade ...... or a stealth build, issues can arise.

    well three things,

    one, no one asked you to guess in here
    two, you're wrong am wearing imp and sharpened and investing in all what you said as much as I can at my level
    three, am not actually having too much trouble in pvp but in some situations I encounter people that is nearly impossible to drop their health

    so if you wanna help elaborate on your 1st point or if you know something drastic that can be done to highly increase the resistance that people do state it. Thanx

    it is level 160 not the best gear but It's not bad, my issue is not here, what am saying is that I have this build that says it should do x amount of damage and prevent y amount of damage as low as it says it is I dont care, it does it only against npcs and when some player comes It's like the things that am expecting to happen from imp and sharpened for instance are not happening even spells do less damage

    As previous poster stated, Battle Spirit cuts your damage in half against players. Example- if the skill tooltip says 5000k damage, Battle Spirit cuts that in half to 2500k.

    After that the enemy player's build would factor in. Damage mitigation for instance.

    Do you have a debuff that you can use to make the enemy a little softer?

    If you want to see a list of debuffs and buffs, you can find lists with a search engine using search terms "ESO buffs and debuffs"

    Yea I read the battle spirit I guess that is the one, 50% less damage is a lot. And yea am running debuffs and buffs am quite happy with the build still testing some stuff though but now that I know about this 50% I can look at it from different perspective, thanx

    I always thought it went something like this:

    (Ability is listed for - 5000)
    (After Battle Spirit buff - 2500)
    (After estimated enemy resistances - 1800)
    My ping is higher than your resource recovery...

    Block, broken armor sets, CP allocation etc

    The reactive armor bug might be what you are talking about.

    Why can't Battle Spirit just be reflected in the tooltip? It seems to be doing that for Blazing Shield.

    For some reason battlespirit only shows tooltip modifications on wards. Heals and damage are not shown with the 50% reduction

    Yes block and shield are clear I get the combat texts saying that this was blocked or absorbed or evaded and am fine with that I understand it, I dunno what the reactive armor bug is if you can explain it that'll be cool, but mainly my issue was for example, I hit with incapacitating strike on a marked target after ambush, surprise attack and mass hysteria and I deal 6k and I constantly get hit by 12k incapacitating strike, the margin is huge so I was checking if there is something am missing before I try and figure out how to adjust that.

    this thread is interesting though I was checking but nothing in it that was helping as well.

    He didn't guess off start. He said what three things may be and leaned towards what he thought. His first point said it right there, that you already acknowledged is prob it then, battle spirit. You said in post comparing pve to pvp damage. That's why battle spirit #dontaskforhelp #thenbashonthem

    OP your sig says you have 210cp, that could be another reason why you take more damage and dish out less, assuming you're playing in the main campaign.

    Seriously it's demoralizing. It's time to re-work BATTLESPIRT and try for a different more subtle PVP balance approach.

    yea true am aware of that, but I was missing on battle spirit, so after the calculations the margin was still very huge it's basically 50%, now that I cleared it up and I know all the factors messing with the numbers in pvp I can calculate it correctly to find the right build u know
