Champion level gap?

Hello fellow Cyrodill warriors,
I'm a level 240 champion pure DK tank (39k hp, 23k stamina, 11k magicka) with fairly good build, sporting few purple and few legendary items. I can still hold my own vs mobs dealing average of around 9k dps. I did a lot of pvp before champion system was introduced and I was doing great.
In veteran dungeons or imperial city, I can tank any Boss with army of mobs without breaking a sweat..my HP hardly moves. However in PVP when me, my friend and my wife (dps and healer, similar level) meet a single lvl 501 champion it's time to run. My team members get killed after 1-2 hits, I get killed pretty fast too. Our damage output on any champion 501 is laughable...we're just scratching them. I find it weird because same 501 champions in dungeons are very squishy. How is it that they can tank better than me in pvp while 1 shotting all those lvl 200 champions? Is there some level gap mechanic like on non champion areas or do 250 extra champion points make such a MASSIVE difference?

This is by no means rant post. I'd just like to learn if I'm missing something :)
Thanks!

Experience and CP play's a role. And how you distribute your cp as well.

That's for sure. I was rather wondering if there is some level gap mechanic in the backend that reduces damage taken and increase damage output against players that are way below your champion level. Something like level gap benefits that were present before in veteran ranks.

    No.
    DAGON - ALTADOON - CHIM - GHARTOK
The Covenant is broken. The Enemy has won...

    Elo'dryel - Sorc - AR 50 - Hopesfire - EP EU

Well actually if a player has more cp they can put more points into damage trees and mitigation, so technically they can do more damage and take less

There is a No CP campaign, that would even the playing field for you. I have never tried, but isn't Imperial City no CP in that instance?

Anyway, you can get most of the buff that 531 CP players have by distributing your points correctly. For you, just put about half of what the guides say for your build into each one, and you will be at 70% to 80% what cap players are getting for the buffs. You might adjust things as you grow your points to grab a passive in that constellation.

Get a set of grinding gear with the Training trait on all pieces. Go grind public dungeons, Wrothgar, random group dailies etc for about an hour each day and you will be at the cap in a fairly short order. Also, I got tons of exp just doing the zone main quests for Silver and Gold. Those give out a lot of Champ Exp, especially while enlightened.

Enjoy the game, life is what you really want to be worried about.

its not just cp its experience and gear. pvp is a completely different beast.

if your not wearing impenetrable traits on all your gear and they are right there will be enough difference they can easly 1v3 you

its not because of the CP gap, its due to the builds people use coupled with CP distribution to maximize them.

If your using the same character for PVE & PVP do you have 2 sets of armour?, if you don't then its because of your build as well.

I don't think CP has that much affect I have the max CP and yet I still find the same thing happens to me. There are some people out there that kill me in 3 seconds flat. They seem to be able to kick out so much damage they kill the average player in seconds. They also seem to be the same people where we get 10 characters fighting 1 and still losing. This has to be a lot more than a few champion points.

Build difference, you can spec to take on multiple people. It's 501s I treat like new players, your cp doesn't mean nothing if you don't know what to do with it. So at the same time someone with low cp can do the same against a complete potato.

Awesome! Very interesting replies! Thanks a lot guys. I guess I'll just stick to PVE for now until I grind out proper PVP gear.

3571 is 50% crit bonus damage reduction (reduces an unmodified crit from 1.5x damage to 1.0x damage). Afaik, this is a hard cap.

Try out Azura's Star... everyone has 0 CP so you can get a better feel of what difference CP makes compared to experience.
    For the Covenant!
    Svvord - magicka NB
    Lavv - magicka DK
    Povver - stamina NB
    Psylint - stamina NB
    Yelruc - magicka Sorc
