is it still possible to have some fun w mDK and Molten Weapons in PvP or those days are over? if so, how does one go about that?

I have a 5pc Elegance, 5pc Clever Alchemist, and a fire staff with a weapon/spell enchant I want to try out

The Molten changes and battle-spirit nerfs have greatly hampered it, but I was able to get a record 24k heavy attack on a Vampire during Thieves guild update. That was in a PvE Juliannos set-up though. You might be able to get huge burst potential with elegance and alchemy. That said, it is very one-trick pony, but it is capable of 1v1s with the sheer sustained damage you can dish out. Medium fire heavy attacks with molten whip and engulfing flame can severely pressure any stam build but the second you yourself take too much pressure, you are going to run dry defending yourself. And magic templars can just purify then jab spam you and you are ****ed.

In 1.6 it was great though. It was also possible to play true glass cannon DK with DW and 17k molten Whips that could also hold moderate survivability at the time, with workable Dragonblood. DK was such a balanced class.

I've done the heavy attack build with alchemist and it can hit super hard, but if you don't have the ability to follow it up with a lash or something and the player survives, you don't have much else going for you other than the initial burst.

My current setup is 5 elegance, 5 julianos, 1 Molag kena destro resto. Hit a fully charged heavy, destructive reach, medium weave into crushing shock and you will kill most players. Burning talons also helps hold someone in place to hit them.

Forgot to say use radiant magelight to empower the heavy attack. The worst part about this build is the amount of major evasion running around. Missing on the heavy attack usually means you die.

    This.

And who would sit still for 2 seconds while this is charging. Once again another group play skill.

@Lokey0024 agreed. Group play or a halfway decent ganging build.

A caster DK works just fine, and you don't have to focus your whole build on heavy attacks.

You can unleash an absurd amount of flame damage with the right set up I hit 6k molten whips in pvp all the time, dampen magic + healing Ward stack is better then blocking imo and destro staff gives you the ability to poke at range and wings to reflect ranged attacks against you.

If you want to be really tanky use sword and board but you will do less damage.it really just depends on what you want

While magic DK is weaker right now it's the only balanced class, the other classes are just OP right now. Investing in magic DK is like investing in the future because it's doubtful they get nerfed

And when the world shall listen, and when the world shall see, and when the world remembers, that world will cease to be. - Miraak

This is and has been my build since day one.

Its about utility and cc then heavy attack.

Bats/dawnbreaker is pretty much needed and you will be on a rotation on your back bar:

mutagen -> harness -> healing ward -> wings

front bar I find that medium weave crushing shock into weave rock throw into full heavy while they on the ground plus dawnbreaker will kill most.

I use 5elegeant 5julainos at the moment, but I really am thinking about going 5VD to see if I can't bomb some folks.
Tl;dr really weigh the fun you have in game vs the business practices you are supporting.

do you guys worry about weapon damage? do you put your CP into the Staff skill?

Ive 1-shotted and killed a few people today with just heavy attacks, but like its been said, once found, its kinda hard to survive lol

    but its hilariously fun

I was thinking about putting wings on my destroy bar, and I have been using Magelight

its not spectacular, but when it works, its absolutely great

btw, I am using 5 light Clever Alchemist, and 5 Elegant pieces, and my staff has weapon/spell enchant on it

nah I go for spell damage as much as possible since the followup is what I use to kill folks mostly.

Stun them, hard attack, dawnbreaker will kill even the emp

hm, I would pop a pot, mage light, full heavy, then pulse or reach and then pulse

I don't have Dawnbreaker yet, but it would be funny to u se Chains that pull you to the enemy, and then Dawnbreak them :) cause there is a morph that gives you bonus 20% on next attack

edit: my back bar has random skills I level by turning quests in, so I am not a "dedicated" ganker yet, but I def see the use for annulment/ward/wings

Honestly, worse part about the build is that molten armaments breaks stealth.

lol so back to this, last time I ran around like this with Clever Alchemist + 5 Elegance - all Divines - all purple - on for a week, and it was absolutely fun

so on my front bar, its Reach, Pulse, Inner Light, Molten Weapons, Structured Entropy, and Ulti is a Meteor

the thing there is, SE can be swapped for Elemental Drain, and Reach can be swapped for something else like Harness, or Swap Entropy for Flames of Oblivion and maybe not use Inner Light - basically, there are options for screwing around

now my back/resto bar has Healing Ward, Inner Light, Mist Form, and 2 more open slots - could swap out Healing Ward and instead use Ignious Shield and Combat Prayer, could swap in Eruption or Fossilize - right now I have engulfing Flames and Burning Embers - but I am yet to sucesfully break from CC and not get zerged down to see if I can get anything out of them

could also do a Destro bar DW, and use Dawnbreaker for Ultimate, and use chains that give you bonus damage 20% on next attack

I've also had some sweet success with Heavy attacks into a reach/pulse, but, there are stam builds who gap close so fast, and then I am not sure how to react yet, because usually I am stunned and pretty much dead/cant get up

anyway, does anyone do something like this on mDK this patch? share your thoughts?

I thought about taking my CP points out of wherever I have them and putting 100, or maybe not 100 but a substantial amount, into Staff Expert - but since I may end up using SOME DoT's as I try to work them in, maybe I should leave CP as is?

right now I am using 5pc Kagrenacs and its nice with regen and all, but I am definitely missing damage boost from Clever Alchemist, so I may go back to CE, also using Aprentice Mundus - should I switch to Shadow or?

@pcar944 elegance mDK is a really a ganking glass cannon build. So you have to get in that mindset. If your gank fails, you could always do something like fossilize then use invisibility + speed potions to escape.
