My dunmers feel your Racism, giving most other classes passives they can use "adds extra gold" "adds extra experience" etc. we get "walks on Lava", there's only a limited time in the entire game this will even be necessary and for the most part it's not anyway.

Yeah, it's pretty useless imo. But I'm not sure what else they could add that would fit the race thematically.

Worst thing is that they named it ASHLANDER.

    The filth.
Just so that everyone knows, my Altmer still can't have black hair. About a dozen of Altmer NPCs in the game have black hair. Just saying.

    Meet my characters:
    Command: Do the thing.

Zadarri, Khajiit Fist of Thalmor: The thing was done, as commanded.
Durza gra-Maghul, Orc blacksmith: The thing was done perfectly, in the most efficient way.
Tegwen, Bosmer troublemaker: You can't prove I didn't do the thing.
Sings-Many-Songs, Argonian fisher: Sure, I'll do the thing... Eventually. Maybe.
Aerindel, Altmer stormcaller: After extensive research, I've come to the conclusion that doing the thing would be a waste of resources.
Liliel, Dunmer pyromancer: Aerindel said I shouldn't do the thing. Something about "resources".
Gyda Snowcaller, Nord cryomancer: I will find a way to do it that won't waste resources and make Aerindel proud of me.
Beatrice Leoriane, Breton vampire: I persuaded someone else into doing the thing. You are welcome, dear.
Sahima, Redguard performer: Doing the thing sounds awfully unpleasant and really not my problem.
Ellaria Valerius, Imperial priestess: I'll pray to the Eight for the thing to be done, if it is Their will.

Wait, Dunmer can walk on Lava? There's an entire quest in Stonefalls predicated on a Dunmer getting trapped by lava.

Am I falling for a troll post or something here?

I'm pretty underwhelmed by the 'walks on lava' passive as well. I did laugh when I saw it was named 'Ashlander'. (The House mer won't be pleased.)

The new DLC changes have them 50% resisted to Lava damage. They can't walk on Lava.

    Living vicariously through my characters.

    My Girls:
"If you were trapped in your house for, say, a year, how would you pass the time?"

Nephikah the Houseless, dunmer assassin: "I suppose I could use the break. I have a lot of business holdings now that need management."
Swum-Many-Waters, elderly argonian healer: "I think that I would enjoy writing a memoir."
Silh'ki, khajiit warrior-chef: "Would this one be able to go outside, to the nearby river? It's hard to fish without water!"
Peregrine Huntress, bosmer hunter: "Who is forcing me to stay inside, and where can I find them?"
Lorenyawe, altmer mechanist: "And why would I want to go outside in the first place? Too much to be done in the workshop."
Lorelai Magpie, breton master thief: "I'd go nuts. Lucky for me, I have a little experience sneaking out!"
Rasheda the Burning Heart, redguard knight: "I would continue my training to keep my skills sharp."
Hex-Eye Azabi, khajiit daedric priestess: "I suppose it would be lucky, then, that I built a shrine to Mephala in my backyard."
Yngva Stormhammer, nord bandit (reformed...ish): "I hate being inside even when I'm not forced to be. GET. ME. OUT."
Madam Argentia, vampire dunmer aristocrat: "I suppose it would be more of the same. I have a rather... contentious relationship with the sun."
Mazie gra-Bolga, orc scout: "Uh... I'd have to house train my bear..."
Felicia the Wanderer, imperial witch-for-hire: "What Lorelai said."
Calico Jaka-dra, retired khajiit pirate: "This one would like a rest from her grand adventures. Her jewel shop runs out of stock!"
Shimmerbeam, blind altmer psijic: "Provided that I am confined to Artaeum, I do not think I will want for things to occupy my time."
Shauna Blackfire, redguard necromancer: "Sounds like paradise. I hate people."
Kirniel the Undying, cursed bosmer warrior: "I would feel useless, not being able to fight."
Echoes-from-Dragons, argonian who thinks she's a dragon: "All the better to count my hoard!"

(Signature idea shamelessly stolen from Abeille.)

After reading this thead I think it needs to be brought to ZOS attention giving dunmer the abiltiy to walk on lava is unrealistic lore wise. From all games, they had at most 50% resistance to fire, not a natural born immunity to all fire like the Snowelfs were with ice.

    Highly disappointed.

I wouldn't go that far. Every classes bonus ability is mostly a convenience perk that doesn't effect stats. I would like to see improved sneak outside of Cyrodil though. Or something along those lines

You couldn't replace this one with a change that affected combat. The notes say they added non-combat related bonus.

    Racial Passive Abilities
To support the new Race Change feature, racial passive abilities for each race have been adjusted and rebalanced. Each race now has a flavorful and thematic non-combat bonus added to the first free passive ability of their skill line.

Another I just thought of could be like 2% bonus exp to skill lines. Kind of like Altmer's 1% bonus to all exp. It fits because they are a jack of all trades type race.

That would make sense. I wish there could be something to do with Ancestor Worship but I can't think of one that wouldn't involve combat.

I don't understand. Why calling a passive that involves lava Ashlander a bad thing? Ashlanders are looked down on by Dunmer which is bad but they do live in the ashlands where most of the lava is so what's the beef? ...have I just fed a troll?...hmmm...if so, I hope they choke on a kwama egg.

I think it's more of a lore thing. Ashlanders are a specific kind of tribal Dunmer that don't follow the Tribunal.

Exactly this. They are looked down on by other Dunmer, who wouldn't want to be associated to them. "The beef" is purely from a roleplay standpoint.

Imagine if Bretons got a passive called "Reachman". It would make no sense (it would make even less sense than the Ashlander one though, since Reachmen are not exclusively of Breton descent and the Bretons don't consider the Reachmen as being Breatons too afaik).

They are all rather small and borderline trivial. Some even become completely useless after a certain point or even very very minor (exp bonuses when capped at Cp, although arguably it'll help with cp raises, or extra crafting inspiration when you are a maxed crafter unless they add new crafting, etc)

The funniest part to me is that this is actually useful in some combat situations. Think last boss in the blessed crucible, and more importantly the fight with valkyn skoria.

I mean, the bonus is most often hilariously useless, but it is also the most useful from a combat standpoint.

I'm going to just hop in and suggest a potentially constructive and lore-friendly alternative:
those of us who played TES III might (surely) remember about the Dunmer's Ancestor Guardian racial ability. That ability seemed to have changed a lot through Oblivion (hated it, to be honest) and Skyrim (rather useless in that case too), but in Morrowind it really shone:

"The spirit of an ancestor can be called forth by members of the Dunmer race to guide the caster's movements and protect the caster from harm during battle. The caster's percent chance of evading hand-to-hand, armed melee, and ranged attacks is increased by fifty for one minute. This power can be used once per day."

So, finally, here's my proposal: rename the passive from Ashlander to Ancestor Guardian (therefore making every housemer out there happy again, too), remove the walk-on-lava effect and add a very small % of dodging attacks, nightblade Blur's style. I suppose even an extremely low chance every few seconds (let's say, 5% every 10 seconds?) would be a huge improvement, overall, and more in line with the Dunmeri signature racial bonus.
