Impen with light armor and low resistances?

Nightsbane__
So I was told awhile back that unless my physical and spell resistances were > 15k it wasn't worth running impen on my gear. But I'm tired of being ultra squishy sort with 5+ pieces of light armor. So will swapping in impen on four pieces instead of divines make a mark able difference?

Depends what the divines is giving you. It increases your mundus stone effects. Typically divines is largely regarded as a pve trait.

Impen can be superior, it depends on your build. A shield user has no need for impen, you are relying on a magicka shield which isn't crit-able. A heavy armor build with sword and board makes the most use of reinforced traits if you can calculate how much penetration you're enemy has typically.

Some people say to put all 7 impen traits. But remember 7 gold armor impen = 100 crit resistance CP. So you don't need all impen traits really.

Shield using magicka sorc, I run divines to pump up spell damage. I'm just trying not to keep getting wrecked the second my shields go down.

Your shields are most likely to fall in PVP. Many are switching to impen and running less pts in bastion and more in other defensive areas such as hardy.

As a sorc i've been run 4 piece impen for about 6 months I find its worth the trade of the 4 divines. I think its more important as a sorc than other classes as we have zero mitigation once our shields our down.

The original math is right WHEN discussing impen vs reinforced (armor stat etc)

The math works out that Reinforced or a flat mitigation boost will prevent more damage than impen when below that line in armor. When at that armor level or above impen prevents more damage.

This was calculated before db, but im assuming the changes have reinforced this math (pun intended :) )

Worth noting that unless you get above 15 - 18k armor/res, the current hard hitting players have enough penetration that your reinforced trait is worth 0 mitigation.

I'm still fleshing out my melee Magblade, so I haven't really mixed it up with him in Cyrodiil as of yet.

Do you have an recommendations on how many pieces of Impenetrable gear to run vs. points into Resistant, etc.?

    Thanks in advance! :)

^^^ same question. Is resistant better than say, putting points into Hardy?

A fine balance between the two. If you run full impen maybe less into resistant more into Hardy. Also think about what is killing you more. High critical builds? Magicka builds? Stamina build? Make the changes from there.

Resistant protects against 1/2 as much damage as hardy or elemental defender typically
will on any 1 particular strike, however it protects against magic AND stamina based damage; while ele def. and
hardy only protect vs 1 or the other. That being said, in PVP, at best attacks crit half the time,
so I view resistant as 3rd best if you do both PVP and PVE equally, and tied for best if you
mostly PVP. I think most PVP DPS builds will want 25% in hardy and ele def, and 20-25% in resistant, and the rest spllit between healing, bastion, and thick-skinned.

I'm a Vamp, so I have closer to 40% in elemental defender.

If you just PVE, probably 1/3 in hardy and Ele Def, 1/6 thick-skinned, and the rest in healing/bastion.

100 CP = ~1750 critical resistance, which means that it mitigates 50% of base crit damage (1.25x
instead of 1.5x); and 7 gold impens mitigates the other half.

With 4 gold impen and ~45-50 CP in resistant, you're looking at about 2100 which protects you from
60% of base crit, which is roughly my comfort zone. To me 2800 or more is overkill.
Or you could put about 90 in resisant and run 2 impen, or 27 in resistant with 7 impen.
All 3 get you to around 60%.

Currently my setups as light armor magicka dk and light armor magicka sorc for Azura would involve something like:

    magicka dk:
    7/8 sturdy, or
    4 sturdy + 4 impen, or
    1 well-fitted, 3 sturdy, 4 impen

    magicka sorc:
    1 or 2 well-fitted
    4 impen
    1 or 2 infused

Both of them use the Atronach mundus. I see impenetrable on light armor builds as more important than on heavy armor builds, even. If you don't need sturdy, impenetrable is good to have in PvP. Divines only if you have a very damage oriented build and you're fine with it being that way and being squishier in return.
