Whats the hip and happenin' with Templars these days?

xNinJaxHaMst3rX
I've been in and out of the loop for about a month or so now as my semester was ending. Last I remembered Templars were still pretty booty, but they seem decent as of now from what the forums tell me. Can I have the run down on whats going on and working?

The CP reset was pretty nice for this moment!

    1) Cast RD
    2) Wait for someone else to drop enemy's health below 50%
    3) Collect AP

Same old...they can do anything pretty well, but they only thing they can do perfect is heal. And yes, Radiant Destruction is the flavor of the month whether the target is in execute range or not. I was in a fight last night, mid-sized, and at any given time I could see 5-6 RD beams criss-crossing my field of vision.

As a person with 2 Templars, I too have felt the annoying tickle of a Jesus Beam on my back while at full health...but bear in mind, sometimes it's just because you came between the Templar and the person they were aiming at.

Damn so this is like nothing new, lol.

I'm wearing 7/7 light with 5/5 seducer and 4/5 magnus. SnB is two seducer and DW 2/5 torugs.
I haven't updated my CPs yet so I'm running a very op 0/127 CP combo. Gear is for like CP 40 (VR2) as well. Everything needs to be updated basically lol.

    Bars are
Off: Jabs, toppling charge, purifying light, inner light, st. entropy - bats
Def: jabs, BOL , inner light, channeled focus, cleanse - bats

I'm just looking to do damage and kill things while surviving in the small group pug zergs that go on. Might have to RR another class to do that?

EDIT: Pic of my stats seems to not be uploading at the moment. They're pretty low all around anyway.

For whatever direction you want to go, Mag DPS, Stam DPS, Healer you can find some videos of builds to start getting some ideas for your own. Whether or not you treat those videos as recipes to be followed exactly, or helpful suggestions that you want to make alterations to is up to you, but they can definitely get you pointed in the right direction to start developing a character you want to play. Both of my Templars are on the tankier side of the tracks (Stamplar and Blazing Shield Tank), but I know Templar players who focus on being healers and still put out good damage, just a suggestion. PvP fights are won or lost based on healers and if I ever roll another Templar it'll be a dedicated healer if for no other reason than you can earn massive amounts of AP healing.
  • xNinJaxHaMst3rX
I've found a promising looking damage dealing Templar build for now. If that doesn't work I'll try PvP healer, because what you said is true> Thank you everyone for your help!

Really? How is it a bug? That's like saying Caltrops revealing NB's is a bug. Ritual of Retribution is essentially magicka healing caltrops with the Sacred Ground passive.

I think he was talking about thaumaturge not affecting jabs to be the bug.

This is insanely annoying. And then you have to decide whether to block cancel and eat the magicka cost, or just let it roll. If I'm in a fairly safe spot, I usually let it play out. It makes people panic and breaks their rotation.

Level them both. And dual wield and S&B. All four can make viable combos. If you plan to heal, resto is probably your priority.

My current build is based off of this, I know it is outdated, but it was a start.

My gear is different though due to me not having access to his, I have 4/5 magnus, 5/5 seducer, my DW is 2 set Torags. (Though, my gems and enchants are the same as his)
Ability bar is the same I believe.
I used to run all light armor before, in which i was pretty good with mana, but when I went off thie guide my mana management has taken a serious dive due to less light armor for the passives. I thought the heavy armor would add to survivability, it does. I get 3 shot instead of one shot haha.

    I have only 134 CP,
    R
    27 Resistant
6 Hardy, Elemental Defender, Quick Recovery
    G
    22 Magician
    21 Arcanist
    2 Mooncalf
    B
    20 Elemental Expert
    12 Elfborn
    6 Spell Erosion, Thaumaturge

In Cyro, being scaled to 150, i have 22.3K Health, 20.2 Mana, 8.8K Stam. 1.2K Mana recovery. :'(

I'm looking to be able to deal damage and not die on my lonesome. My Dark flares hit for a whopping 3k, and RO tickles too (while under 50%). I tack myself onto large groups pretty frequently and I can do alright at supporting for a bit before I eternally oom.

    TLDR
I want to be able to kill&survive when I'm by myself but still be able to help in any way in groups. If all else fails I wouldn't mind sacrificing all my damage to make myself a really tanky healer, why not.

EDIT: The house tactic also sounds interesting. Not 100% on how that goes but I have a pretty decent idea.

    20k magicka? That's a typo, right? I hope?

Don't use a PvE guide. @Alcast 's "Transmutation" build isn't a bad place to start. Your low CP is going to gimp you if you are playing a CP campaign, but hang in there.

Without emp buffs, etc., I run 23k health, 35k magicka, 16k stam, 2k crit resist, 1200ish magicka regen and 2400+ unbuffed spell damage in Cyrodiil with 3 Willpower (2 regen, 1 damage), 5 Julianos impen, 2 Skoria, 2 Torugs Pact DW in one bar and a sub-par Malestrom lightning destro on the other. I use prismatic enchants on 3 large pieces and tri food.

I am by no means an elite player or theorycrafter, but I hit fairly hard and have good survivability, even though 23k health feels kinda low. I win most 1v1s with similarly skilled players and survive and kill most gank attempts. This is a solo/zerg-surf DPS build but I provide off heals and purges and can zerg dive to a certain extent. Impen is just not negotiable in PvP.

Tanky group-oriented healers will probably want to run Transmutation and maybe Malubeth. The Transmutation group buff is awesome and Malubeth (even after they fix it) will provide some wiggle room for surviving long for your group to come to your rescue.

Good luck. I am still constantly adjusting my build and skills but have been pretty happy with this basic setup so far.

Put 75 cp points in thaumaturge, cast channel focus to get heal buff and entropy to get empowerment.

Use toppling charge or vampire bane/dark flare( if toppling charge doesn't work, Dark flare is also good against dodgerollers+ vigor spammers) then use puncturing sweeps and lastly RD.
or use DF then RD.( when you apply a dot like vampire bane and cast RD that player will melt fast, although posion injection is the best dot in this game)

@NBrookus what are you running on your bars?

I keep changing stuff up, trying to find the right balance of damage/survivibility for me. But it's usually something like:

    Destro:
Entropy - Javelin - Channeled Focus - Dark Flare - Radiant Oppression ---- Ice Comet

    DW:
Sweeps - Toppling Charge - Lingering Ritual - Breath of Life - Rapids or Magelight ---- Crescent Sweep or Barrier
Also I'm an Imperial which I forgot to mention and I'm an EP in Haderus. Thinking of switching maybe, it's pretty dominated by Covenant.

Given how dominant DC has been in Haderus lately, I'm thinking of rolling an EP Magicka DK. Guess I'm a glutton for punishment. Unfortunately, that would probably mean losing a guild that takes this faction stuff more seriously than I do, so I haven't decided yet. I don't really want to play in TF or Azura's.

    DW:
Dark Flare - Vamp Bane - Radiant Oppression - Entropy - BOL

    S&B:
Jabs - Ritual of Retribution - Channeled Focus - Toppling Charge - BOL

I'm also interested in the use of a staff, but my second bar is much more utility and I'm scared to go two offensive weapons with that haha. Maybe I'll try out what you're running if i do so!

When I went to respend my skill points the cost seemed to be only 1 gold a point rather than 100, I don't know if thats new or not or a one timve thing or what but I enjoyed that! I remember spending like 15K to reset my skill points before.
