Sharpened Maelstrom Greatsword vs. Sharpened Maelstrom Maul in PVP?

I was fortunate to have the sharpened Maelstrom 2H sword drop about 3 weeks ago, and have been using it on my Stam NB PVP build. Just yesterday I had the Sharpened Maelstrom Maul drop and now I need to make a choice…

It’s a good problem to have, but I am weighing out which would be more advantageous in PVP. Obviously one would always outweigh the other in particular situations, but I am trying to determine which would be the best in the majority of situations.

Sharpened 2H sword ignores 14% of armor and provides a flat 5% damage increase. Sharpened 2H Maul ignores 34% of armor. I had attempted some math, but feel like it is most likely flawed, so I am not posting it lol. But when I attempted I concluded that a target would need around 19K resistance or more for maul to be preferred. @Asayre had a link stating Sharpened 2H Sword is preferable for medium armor targets around 13K, and maul would be preferred with targets over 20K resistance , so I think my math was in the ballpark.

Things I am considering: My build is most often single target oriented, bursting down 1 opponent at a time. I mix in surprise attack which debuffs armor by 5280, and also have typically been running piercing mark to deal with other NB’s which is also an armor debuff. Also, Heavy Armor does not seem to be very popular in PVP, so I would think that 9 out of 10 players are probably running under 20K resistance.

Does the 5% buff to Greatswords affect Vigor and Rally Heals? (I’d assume yes)

Do damage shields have any resistance, or are they affected by player resistances? If they have no resistance, wouldn’t greatsword always be preferred.

Is it safe to conclude that currently 2H Sharpened Greatsword is better than 2H Sharpened Maul in PVP in MOST situations?

2h buffs tooltip attack damage. Nothing else. And if you want the best DPS and will use the 2h as your main DPS then axe can be good for PvP.. For example: If you use 5 attacks (LA, SA, Heavy, SA, and then LA + executioner. You theoretically a 60% chance to have proc'd a 10k bleed over 3 secs with proper crit chance. For PvE only probably Maul for bosses, and lastly, GS for all purpose DPS.
