If I completed Cadwell Silver is gold supposed to open up, Iam not entirely sure on what iam missing because everything in the Almanac under silver is completed but nothing happened?

As far as quests nothing is showing about questing the other zone, I cant even get to the other zone (gold), In the Almanac Gold is not showing, only silver and all the silver quest are highlighted complete.

In a normal situation what was supposed to happen after completing silver?

I believe after completing all of Cadwell's Silver you just go to the Harborage, speak to him and then he mentions about Gold.

Whilst they're showing as complete, have you checked the individual areas to ensure that you've 'saved/freed' them and they're showing as white, not black?

I recall having to do some additional quests that weren't showing on either the guide I followed and/or Almanac.

Ill go back thru the areas again but if that is the case then why not just specify on the Almanac what constitutes as being completed. Most of the areas are completed aside from a few boss zones, the ones with crossbones.

No the boss zones shouldn't factor in. If they're all showing as ticked in the Almanac then you've done everything you needed.

Have you been to both harbourages (home and silver alliances) to see if he's there?

Once you turn in Silver to Cadwell in the Harborage, and get your reward, he should give you Gold immediately.
