"Unable to connect to game server. Please make sure you have a valid connection"

Title says it all. I can log in, using my user/pw and sometimes it even takes me as far as the character select screen, but after a few moments, it just disconnects.

No problem with my internet connection - I can play other titles fine and traceroutes shows no anomalies. Other obvious stuff i.e. firewall permissions, all done etc. Game was working fine before the latest hotfix.

Please advise.

UPDATE: So, I've tried traceroutes to the following IP's: 159.100.232.9 (this appears in the resource manager as soon as the game starts up. It's fine over 12 hops up to 195.122.154.4 (ns.99.rookdns.com), on the last hop (13) it just shows "destination unreachable".

Once the game logs in, 2 new IP's appear: 159.100.232.171 and 159.100.232.114 and they all ping fine right upto the last hop at a latency of around 160ms (normal from South Africa).

So I don't know ...

    Same problem here in germany:
Die Verbindung zum Spielserver konnte nicht aufgebaut werden. Vergewissert euch, dass eure Internetverbindung aktiv ist.

I'm able to login and to pick a character, but after around 30-45s loadingscreen, the game shows the error message above.

I got rid of that error by opening the ports on my router, flushing my DNS and deleting my ShaderCache and Usersetting files. Oh, and don't forget to increase LUA memory again to prevent bad FPS drops :)

I suffered from this issue for months on end.
My tickets received almost no attention and eventually were closed.
I simply can't login to PC EU game server in prime time(16:00 to 22:00 GMT).
I tried everything at my end(deleted the ShaderCache and Usersetting files, flushed my dns, repaired the client and opened ports etc).
The issue is not at my end.
There is a severe connectivity issue at ZoS server side,
the ping results(which I also run) were conclusive.
Perhaps the server is overcrowded and can't handle the number of requests per second at prime time or it's specific accounts bug.

Those steps were part of the response I received from ZoS.
    They don't solve the issue.

    @ZOS_JessicaFolsom please investigate this matter.

I'm having similar issues now: I log in, can move around for a few seconds then the ping gets stuck at 999+ with my input lag increasing more and more until things stop loading and I'm d/c'd. Then before I can reconnect I have to wait a few minutes, or I'll get a Error 200.
Given that this is the first time I had this issue in over a year and the other people posting in here, I'm confident that something is wrong on Zenimax's end rather than mine. :|

In addition to the original problem, I now get lots of error 200, 201 and 300's as well. Most of the time though, it just kicks me out without a warning, or it displays "Unable to connect to game server. Please make sure you have a valid network connection".

A trace route I did today indicates an anomaly around "ae-1-3102.ear2.Frankfurt1.Level3.net" or IP 4.69.163.78 ... I presume one of the service providers en route to the mega/login server? It shows more than 80% packet loss. It's just today though - the original problem showed no anomalies on the trace route.
