I like this game, and yeah Angry Joe's review hurts a bit. And it hurts because most of the points he mentioned were true.

The sad part is that some of his points are still valid today:
    - The quests are still un-rewarding. It is even worse than he had said - the whole Lvl1 - VR15 rewards become obsolete as soon as you reach VR16
    - The grinding is still a thing - and there are in-store shortcuts to it.
    - The game went free to play in order to keep up the players. Yes with the discounts that are out there it is a free to play game technically.
    - He talked good things about pvp - please don't ask him for a re-review he will ruin that too now.
    - And he is right about the combat system - it is the most powerful feature that this game has (to me at least).

And he said he is sorry.
He just did his job the way he does it.

What review were you watching? The review took place before VR12-VR16 was introduced, and it was no where near f2p. There was also no crown store.

I generally respect Angry Joes reviews, but I was sad to see he didn't go back and review it again down the track. I don't think it's fair to base your opinion on a new MMO. They are usually all half-baked in the beginning, and rely on player testing/feedback before they really start to get better.
For gods sake, he was playing a stam sorc with mages wrath and crystal frags. He obviously didn't even play enough to learn the mechanics. Just rode around on a horse yelling at people.

I actually played in some of those early battles, and it was a lot of fun even though most of us didn't know what the hell we were doing. Tactics did get refined, and while the AJSA guild shrunk down to essentially nothing on ESO (a lot of people moved on to other guilds when many of the leaders left) I think a lot of what Angry Joe said was true. The reality is you have to understand Joe's perspective. He's doing his best to entertain while also review games for gamers by gamers. I respect what he's doing, and it is clear that he puts a lot of work into what amounts of a startup business. I honestly wish the guy all of the best, and personally think he does a much better job than most of the professional gaming mags/television shows. All of those guys have such a heavily vested interest in these companies and their ad money that its patently obvious sometimes that they cower to the demands of game developer companies.

I realize Angry Joe's shtick can get a bit ridiculous, even juvenile, but honestly its just shtick. I bought the game during beta, but I also played the Beta and had many of the same determinations as Joe about the game. My assessment personally was a bit different than his because I knew a lot of the complaints would have been dealt with in due time. MMORPG's have a tendency to arrive with a lot of flaws, and as a half finished project. MMO's actually never finish til they shut down! I know Joe's mindset though, and I think I can read past a lot of the color he puts into things. I can also see where his wild antics would annoy people, but he's got his target audience, and in all fairness I think he does right by them.

Ultimately, I agree with you @Alucardo, I really wish he would come back and re-review the game. ESO is not perfect by a longshot, and I'll be the first to list off a laundry list of things I think are wrong with it. Its also my go to game, and that includes stand alone games. That should speak for itself. I think ESO is a fantastic game and people have to be really unreasonable to assume/expect perfection. We can always try to push for balance and making things better, and there's nothing wrong with that.

Yes we talk about the same review.
Maybe I did not put it down clearly enough:
At the time Joe reviewed the game the Imperial Edition was the "shortcut" - to get the horse fast, to get rings of mara and to have free access to the imperial crafting motif and the cool race with very solid stats.

Now imperial city is not a thing anymore but we have VR16 now which is extremely hard to reach and there a plenty of shortcuts in the crown store to get XP faster, to get motifs, riding skills - all sort of shortcuts.

The point is that ZOS continues to keep the in-game progress slow in order to sell their products in the crown store. It was the Joe's point and it is still valid today but in a different shape.

He didn't say that the game will go f2p fast ...he mentioned that the game does not offer enough qualitative content in order to keep the casual players paying the subscription which proved to be right by ZOS going buy to play.

The game is still half-baked, so better he does not re-review it. Like for example the graphics and artworks - awesome when it comes to landscape and buildings and so - terrrible when it comes to costumes and armor, which does not fit the chosen body shape. Alone the decision made by ZOS to not craft a female version but just alter the male version a little bit, is BS - in a game where the avatar is the representation of the player this stuff has to be perfect with much artistic effort put into it. This alone makes it a less 9/10 - not even counting the other flaws - in the end it would turn out to be a 6.5/10 - and this with a lot of good will - so better don't ask him to re-review it - unfixed bugs since beta and stuff like this is BS and unprofessional.

Eventually their laziness with costumes will catch on and hopefully they will see it through loss of sales.

One reason I don't waste my money on that stuff is because they're not pieces I can mix and match and they don't match to my characters design.

Yeeah, he played to around level 15 during pre-release, experience a bunch of bugs (Expected with an MMO launch) and that is pretty much it. Nor really a 'review' in my opinion.

    @EdmundTowers

When I saw that video by Lazypeon I was over the moon as he approached it in such a good way. As a first impression and as an MMO, judging it by it's world, combat and general gameplay. People who haven't seen his video: https://youtube.com/watch?v=jv4HPAwSD4g

His first review was positive Then he tried to play the game at release with his girl friend and like others said in this thread as soon as you completed one step of the quest you got zoned out, so there he is helping his girl he click the item,
she goes away on his screen, he goes away on hers

That second review highlighted everything that was wrong with the game at release, and there were a bunch of problems

As it has been pointed out in previous comments this thread is fairly old. Because it is from a year ago we consider this thread to be a necro and since we do not allow such things this thread will be closed.
