Do I have to min/max to be competitve?

I don't plan on min/max'ing but it seems that many people feel that is the only way to go in the current state of pvp. I just can't follow the meta (whatever that is) because it's boring.

but I understand why people do it and I respect it.

In ESO's current state, you better believe it. Zenimax ditched skill for stats awhile ago. It didn't use to be this way. Believe it or not, Zenimax had a somewhat competent team early on.

I tried no to min/max and play how I wanted (ie a bow wielding hybrid build with magicka abilities)

Is it fun? Hell yeah it's fun. You play how you want
Are you competitive with others? Only if they also don't min/max. Else your dead because your damage is probably much lower
Can you still be of use? Yes. You can still siege, repair, resurrect and support others

    what does this mean?

What are you talking about. Ever noticed only scrub players get 2 shot in duels? There's very few things that actually need a correct or two considering the scale and youth of the game. People QQ way to much

Wait so you want to use stamina gear and magic dmg skills and be effective? Why not just wear a staff? You want to be a hybrid? Tank you need a balance of resource pools anyway and it's effective. But hey what do I know.

In 1.5 one could easily wear medium armor and effectively use magic spells. Of course not as effective as a full magic user but that is what a hybrid build is all about. In 1.5 you could still be viable but without softcaps you cannot. It's all about maximizing one stat now and not put anything anywhere else.

inb4 someone comes up saying ''you cant blame the players for playing the game bruh''.Yeah well can you blame the people who ball zerg+aoe spam constantly and lag the entire server? I hope ZoS consider buffing hybrid builds with upcoming class balance overhaul

You do not have to min/max a build or follow the meta to be competitive.

Just hide in the Zerg, brother.

As long as you stay in the lag you'll be fine.

    Define competitive.

You can complete most end-game pve content if you have a decent build without really having to min/max.
For example if you have a stamina race for a magicka build or vice versa.

In pvp the differences are more noticeable, you either have to make up with player skill or you have a real disadvantage.

Ofc its about pvp. Btw is really the player skill left? Everything you do with your skills are extemely punishing ie defensive movements. IMO it's more like all about spamming whatever you have the best with a min/max build. You automaticly win every fight with that way.

    And 13k health outside cyro.

Believe it or not, full glass won't be able to outlast a build that works a little bit of health and defensive play in their build.

    For example:

    - templars, despite a lack luster shield, if you put 20 points to health, slot entropy for added health and replace one magic enchant on your infused gear with health, you'll get enough health to survive most one-shots and boost your shield (which NB can't crit on.).

    - my understanding DK can synergize with health similar to templars. Except you'll need 30k health to make green dragon blood efficient (%of health missing mechanic. Similar to popping BOL at low health as a Templar.). But I'm only a lvl 39 stam DK right now so knowledge is still limited.

Glass canon builds work wonders for NB and Sorc's, but you can't convince me there aren't builds that counter them.

You only need to min/max to beat min/maxed players who are also skilled. Non skilled players are everywhere however though so as long as your reflexes are good you'll still win a lot even when not min/maxed. It depends on server too, on PC players are much more min/maxed than on Xbox or PS4. Just use what is fun for you.

With sustain I mean some well rounded defensive builds WHO have some more health/migation and Heals. GL killing that blocking breath of life bot before his buddies arrive and *** you.
