Is my Magicka DK on track to being effective at vet levels?

Hello everyone, I just am looking for a little guidance and advice about my DK build. I am a High Elf, currently using 5 light 2 heavy but after hearing advice from TechandJunk I'm gonna switch to 5 heavy and 2 light. Using Dual Swords and Sword and Shield. Using 5 Magnus 4 Seducer. I'm currently level 36 with 29 points into Magicka and 6 into health. Build below:

1st Bar (Dual Swords)

• Structured Entropy
• Inner Light
• Flame Lash
• Burning Talons
• Dragon Fire Scale
• (Ult) Take Flight

2nd Bar (One Hand and Shield)

• Inner Light
• Green Dragon Blood
• Igneous Sheild
• Inhale (want to have Prox. Det here)
• Invasion
• (Ult) Standard of Might

Dragon Blood at the moment does N.O.T.H.I.N.G.! The changes to healing in PvP completely destroyed it. These days, even as the oh-so-mighty winged Dragonknight... you have to slot a restoration staff like everyone else to have a chance at survival. Blessing of Restoration/Combat Prayer is the closest thing to Dragon Blood right now. Coagulating Blood would be nice for the increased healing taken, but that's too little for a slot. And keep in mind, Green Dragon Blood's stamina buff doesn't stack with the one you get from stamina/tristat potions. So, almost always Coag over Green, but right now, neither. Restoration staff, whether you like it or not. Pretty much everyone uses sword and shield over dual-wield, for the increased survival and the gap-closer. So, probably wanna replace dual-wield with a resto staff. The survival is more crucial than the damage.

And a disclaimer in advance: No magicka Dragonknight is ever going to be overwhelmingly effective in PvP under the current circumstances. Just so you know. Harsh, but true. Got nerfed too many times.

Moving on, your ultimates look okay. Note, however, that you need your ultimate as a finisher/pseudo-execution, as magicka DKs don't have one. Molten Armaments is awful. So you need at least one ultimate that does a big burst of damage reliably and fast. Dragon Leap is really good when it works, but it almost never does. People can just take two steps to the side and your almighty leap... won't inflict ANY damage! Sounds ridiculous, but it's the harsh truth. I can recommend Dawnbreaker of Smiting here. You can't roll from it, and it deals high damage very fast, is AoE-based and cheap. Even against non-vamps. Soul Assault is similar.
Or you could choose Meteor instead of Standard of Might as a finisher, but SoM is really good and Dawnbreaker does it better. If you're planning on becoming a vamp, Bats+Meteor are an acceptable combo, though.

The rest looks okay and not so different from what I'm running. Many people consider Inner Light a waste of slots, as you can't crit against shields anyway, and those 7% magicka increase don't add much to your dps. Definitely try out Radiant Magelight for a while, just to see if it helps you with Nightblades. Don't expect any miracles, though. I'm running Inner Light as well, but... I'm really not that impressed. Throwing in an Engulfing Flames or Fossilize here might help you, if you can manage the cost (with five pieces of heavy, watch your magicka bar DRAIN!). Play a bit around with those, see if it helps you.

And above all, don't expect to be on par with Sorcs and definitely not Nightblades! They are leagues ahead of magicka DKs. Best you can do is to play rather supportively, talons and flappy wings can help your group mates bring it home. Speaking of which, never, EVER run alone in Cyrodiil as a magicka DK!

Magicka DK in PVP is right now a sience for itself.

You lack DMG
you lack Surviving
you lack healing
you lack gap closer
you lack movement
you lack anything possible.

but there are some ways to compet, well you may not win many 1v1 if the opossit know how to Play and is not a drunken noob.


1: go away with 2W, the ~250 more dmg you get is not worth on DK.
2: go away with inner light, not worth on DK and you waste 2 Slots, if you want crit Chance take Inferno, it has a nice effect that NBs cant cloak near you.
3: you Need purge, there are to many effects you cant outheal as DK, meatbags, dots, ***, anything.
4: like Lord-Otto said, Coagulating blood is the way to go.
5. if you are fast with skills, Invasion > flame lash > entropy > buffed power lash, it will do ~8k dmg and is your only execute
6. inhale is a rly good skill, Keep it. it interups anyone and bring them offbalance for powerlash. effective vs temps and theyr Jesus beam.
7. you may think of take dawnbraker of smiting instead of leap or standart. cheap ulti and works wonder vs Vamps/wws

i played to Long with 5H/1L/1M, to say the truth... ist not worth a ***. you still get *** by 6-7k Hits, the same hits i get with 5L, there is nothing possitive on heavy, just the less block costs. Zos have to buff HA.

this is for v16, it may differ for you with l36 and non vet camp.

Inner Light Flames of oblivion. More wpn/spell crit and fire
Flame Lash To the other bar. Inhale
Burning Talons
Dragon Fire Scale Steeel trornado or whirling blades (recover stamina). Put those swords to work
(Ult) Take Flight SoM

Now you have an AoE bar with a nice execute and dmg buff (through DW passives)

2nd Bar (One Hand and Shield)
Inner Light FoO
Green Dragon Blood Not worth. Flappy wings or hardened armor. If the later, try to be close to any healer.
Igneous Sheild Harness magicka
Inhale (want to have Prox. Det here) Flame lash or Molten whip
Invasion only if you go for flame lash. If you go for Molten Whip, pick piercing armor

(Ult) Standard of Might DB of Smithing/Meteor

Now you have a 1 v 1 bar

As a vampire, Magicka DKs are one of my more dangerous opponents (7-9k whip crits hurt). They're certainly not useless. The combination of Fossilize and Talons can drain a stamina bar very fast... I'm a fan of the 1h/shield+resto staff builds, but destro staff with Molten Armaments is tempting also.

What would you suggest until I unlock Proxy Det? I'm not close to getting it yet. Haven't unlocked Caltrops yet. School and multiple characters kinda leave me drained.

I run a Magicka DK v16 in PvP..

I use 5Light Armor for all the obvious bonuses for magicka users. I also use a destruction staff for the much needed range for the class. Force Pulse gives great range and Inferno and Destructive Clench help trigger my Skoria quite a bit. Dragon Leap is my gap-closer..

I have a lot of fun in PvP with this build!

Would you suggest switching the DW for a Destro Staff?

Magicka DK since the glory days here, never stopped.
I have been doing a lot of theorycrafting with my DK, but I can honestly tell you no matter what you do as a magicka DK in PvP you will NOT be the death machine that other classes are by yourself. So you have to think whether you want to do group play or run around alone. If you want to attempt 1vX, I can only wish you the best of luck, but if you want to play in a group you will have much more success than solo play.
I myself currently use a destro and resto, with destro helping me so much with the range that is available to me. Crushing Shock is wonderful against those players that roll dodge away when they have little HP, because you interrupt them as well as do plenty of damage to finish them if you weave a medium attack into it. You could also use Destructive Reach as a replacement for a gap closer or even to just knock them off the side of a keep/bridge. (Flaming Donut OP) Pulsar/Elemental Ring is also amazing in a group, because if they are not purging then they have either a DoT or 10% less HP, plus the disease enchant I have on my staff will proc off Impulse and give them a healing debuff. Although you will have less spell damage than if you use DW, you gain range that is very very useful for DK with the class's lack in reliable ranged attacks.
Also I am NOT a vampire, seeing as there are just too many ways to annihilate them at this point in time. Unless you want to die faster than normal, I wouldn't recommend it.
It is really really hard to play a magicka DK that is successful against more than one opponent that actually knows what they are doing, especially stamina builds. I recommend running with a group in PvP to kind of make up for the damage, heals, and much more you lack due to all of the counters in the CP trees and recent updates.
