Templar Magicka Tank?

Seabhacgra
Is it possible?? I have a v16 Templar that I LOVE to play, problem is I've gotten frustrated with trying to build it as a magicka Tank. My purpose is to be able to utilize magicka as the primary resource to tank with and my off set a heal bar to heal with but I've run into alot of issues trying to build it right.. I have a full phoenix and Black rose set,.. been trying combinations of this gear.. black rose 5x with 2 piece phoenix and the reverse.. The issue I'm having is I'm too #@$%# squishy.. my health even with tri food sits around 15k in pve and PVP about 21k.... it's not enough.. I get splattered left and right,...does anyone have any insight into how, if it's even possible, to build a Magicka Templar Tank/healer that is strong enough to handle PVP and tank PVE or heal it? Keep in mind I'm only sporting about 120 CP.. appreciate any and all help, even if it's just a redirect to a good build that works, thanks!

I've tanked most v16 vet dungeons with my magicka templar, that I primarily use for healing. I can't say this is a good tanking build but it kinda works. I've got 30 points in health though, which hurts my PVP and healing but compromises are always that. This and the gear gives me maybe 25k total which is barely enough. I don't use food though, prefer to have the extra regen from drink.

I've got: 5 pieces Hist Bark, 3 pieces Dragonguard and 2 pieces Footman. All enchants are health. So pretty mediocre gear. You could itemise far better with Armour Master and shuffle but I don't have the research unlocked. Can't be arsed grinding for nirned stuff. Or anything else for that matter.

The key of my setup is Blazing Shield and Empowering Sweep. Usual rotation for mobs works like:
    Shielded assault
    Empowering sweep
Blazing shield, keep refreshing as needed
Pierce armour on all targets that didn't aggro to you automatically from sweep

    Boss rotation is more like:
    Pierce armour
    Heroic slash
    Channeled focus
    Blazing shield
    Heavy attack
    Blazing shield
    Heavy attack
and then you can start from the beginning. Breath of Life if healer is busy. Nova or Remembrance work fine for ulties here. You only need to block big hits, as Blazing shield should soak up most other hits. This saves stam and those 2 heavy attacks in the rotation give you back enough, without any need for spears or anything.

Obviously this won't work for trials etc. For PVP this build wouldn't work at all, since Blazing shield is a flaming piece of crap in Cyro. :)

Elf Bane seems like it would be a better set for a magicka tank. Also sword and shield would probably be necessary. Immovable from heavy armour skill line offers about 5k more resistance and one of the morphs offers 8% reduced break free cost while slotted, but this costs stamina to use. This build would get easier the more cp you had because you would need high spell damage for potent heals plus decent regen, cos tanks need sustain. I would be tempted to try 4 elf bane, 4 willows path, 3 willpower, 1 molag Kena, or something like that. Not an expert on tanking though.

Sounds like you got the start of a possibility there, but it just seems like Magicka Templar Tank -SHOULD- be viable.. if only we didn't have to sacrifice everything for health,.. it feels like the ONLY Magicka builds we can manage are DPS and healing.. and then you have to focus so much into magicka to make it viable that you become an easy kill in PvP, this is why even though I love my Templar... I started a DK, and even then it seems like ZOS has made Sorc and NB so OP that fewer and fewer players are makeing anything but Sorcs and NB's

Magicka templar (and stamina too for that matter) can use rune focus to get the 5k increased resists. That one costs magicka and either gives extra healing or magicka return (the later one is very cheap to cast, so stam templar won't have magicka issues casting that one)

Templar magika tank is awesome in PvE, if built correctly you can solo most regular vet dungeons with them

Would you mind discussing/breaking down the build further for this? Would be appreciated.

I had 5 seducer, 2 malubeth and 5 healer with 5 heavy and 2 light, dual s/b build with drink buff back in 1.6. It had never needed any dedicated healer for pve while tanking and it was doing the job very well in pvp as well.

I think something like this, maybe an updated version would work in 1.7 too. I have not much played game since then, so I couldn't tried. But try yourself if you like.

This guy explains it better than I could mate and has a few videos of him soloing group content. The build is still awesome for soloing group PvE content and is what I normally use when running dungeons.

Also, I'm not sure of this second guy's build. But this guy is using a magika temp build and solo's the first boss in white gold tower
