No. Lorebooks increase your Mages Guild reputation, they do not grant any XP.

There are books (which you will find from bookshelf's in most cases [brown books or documents]) which will provide you with some kind of XP for a crafting discipline, weapons skill or other skills and armour. I guess you are asking about Alchemy (for making portions) and there are some books which will increase your level for Alchemy when you have open/read it.

What Enodoc focus on here are Mages Guild, after you have joined this Guild, which have their own set of books (Lore books) which you will find out in the World as you explore Dungeons, doing quests etc and they are purple glowing books. These books increase your level only in Mages Guild skills and will unlock those at different stages (level/reputation).

I think he knows all that he was asking if the xp potions work for when you find lore books. As in getting more mages guild xp. And its provisioning not alchemy
